Here are 5 fun ways to celebrate Mother's Day weekend in the Springfield area

While this second weekend of May means we're one step closer to summer, it also means it's Mother's Day weekend.

For all the times she brought you to sports practice and finished your class project the night before it was due, this is for all the moms out there.

Here are five things to do Mother's Day weekend.

Mother’s Day pop-up Ceramic made by Rosie and True Colors Floral

What: Bring mom to have her pick out the exact bouquet she’ll love from local vendors before brunch. In a one-day event at Robert’s Seafood Market, Mother’s Day duo Rosie’s Ceramics will spoil mom with handmade vases and pitchers that can be filled with flowers from True Colors Floral selling bouquets in every color.

When: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday

Where: Robert’s Seafood Market at 1615 W. Jefferson St.

More: Information about the event can be found online on Robert’s Seafood Market’s Facebook; the seafood market is hosting their own Mother’s Day sale with reduced prices on Atlantic salmon, filet mignon, crab cakes and brownie cheesecake.

Mother Daughter Social

What: It won’t be her everyday purse, but she’ll call it her favorite for sure. Create a paper purse and have a tea party at B’s Creative Studio with their Mother Daughter social. By using bright patterned strong papers and buttons, create a purse in her favorite color without any previous arts and crafts knowledge needed. A paper purse is an origami project that uses glue or tape and through different mediums can be personalized with ribbons for handles, stickers for embellishments and more. The craft paper and structure of the folds should be able to hold small objects in the purse without collapsing, while keeping its shape.

When: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday

Where: B’s Creative Studio at 1305 Wabash Ave., Suite F.

More: Tickets for the event are $45 for mom and daughter together. Additional tickets for more family members are $20 and can be purchased online on B’s Facebook or website.

Mother’s Day Painting with Dabble

What: Come to The Wakery in downtown with mom for an early afternoon of painting, all without the stress of messing up your linework. Dabble Springfield has teamed up with the non-alcoholic bar to provide easy art lessons for each family to make a painting they can take home. Choose between an elephant mama and her little one, or an Otter mother holding her baby; no matter the choice, the coloring is up to you to go wild with whatever the canvas calls.

When: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday

Where: The Wakery at 11 West Old State Capitol Plaza.

More: Tickets for the event are limited and are $35 per person on The Wakery’s website. Both parent and child get to make and take home a canvas.

Yoga Nidra and natural honey tasting

What: While it is a drive away, it may be worth it to make mom’s day. Take a trip out of Springfield to the Wild Harvest Honey Farm with mom and enjoy a breath of fresh air and a night mom will enjoy. The night starts with a 45-minute yoga session called “Nidra”, which means a meditative yoga sleep, guided by Carmen Champion from Main Street Yoga. No big stretched into weird positions, the session is meant to relax the mind while keeping fully aware of the stress releasing from muscles. After yoga, the next stop on the trail is tasting natural honey from the honey yards outside, paired with charcuterie selection curated by Amber Rutledge. If anything screams girl dinner, it’s charcuterie.

When: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Wild Harvest Honey Farm at 9122 Bucks Road, Heyworth

More: Tickets are $50 per person for yoga therapy, dinner and planting a pot and can be found online at wildharvesthoney.com.

Fat Ass 5K

What: Is mom more of a ball of energy who wouldn’t want to sit still for an event, when she’d rather race you down the street? One of the biggest races in Springfield every year is amping up this weekend to do laps around downtown, just like how moms have the unexplainable energy to keep on going even when you’re ready to collapse. This isn’t any average race as water stands include beer and corndogs and separate stops have donuts and live music to help continue your charge down historic city streets. After the race cold beers and pops are staples at the barbecue with live music by Captain Geech; it’s a memory mom won’t forget and certainly can’t if she beats you across the finish line. The Fat Ass 5K and street party charity has donated over $2 million to charities across Sangamon County.

When: Pre-gaming starts at 7:30 a.m. but the official 5K begins at 10 a.m. Saturday

Where: The race route can be found on the Fat Ass 5K website alongside pre-gaming schedules. The race starts at the intersection of Adams and 6th Street.

More: To participate in the race, ages 21 and under tickets on the website are $35, with regular tickets at $75. Each ticket comes with a commemorative t-shirt, race route food/drink samples, a post-race meal and street party entry. All proceeds from the tickets go toward 30 different charities that can be found online.
