5 Electric Car Prices That Tesla Can’t Beat
When it comes to electric vehicles, there is one name that rules the game: Tesla. There is a reputation that comes with being one of the pioneers of the electric car trend, but there is also a price tag.
A 2024 Tesla model 3, according to Edmunds, has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of anywhere between $38,990 and $53,990 for various trim levels, not including options or fees. That’s not too bad, but it certainly isn’t the lowest price when it comes to EVs on the market.

“Tesla’s a big name right now and is one of the most common names to come up when discussing electric cars, especially as it is one of the leaders in full self-driving technology,” explained Brandon Fowler, owner of Machinist Guides. “However, there are alternatives out there that I would say are better, with some being significantly cheaper.”
GOBankingRates got in touch with some automotive experts to find the five electric car prices that Tesla can’t beat. Here’s what made the list.

Chevrolet Bolt EV
MSRP: $31,500
“The Bolt stands out due to its affordability and practical design,” according to Joe Giranda, the director of sales and marketing at CFR Classic.
By EV standards, it’s one of the best on the market by offering a 65 kWh battery and a 200-horsepower electric motor that can last for a range of 259 miles.
“If you are wanting a compact EV, the Chevy Bolt is a great option,” said Ben Michael, the director of auto at Michael & Associates who highlighted that it rivals the price on non-EVs as well.
“It has good reviews and has established itself as a great, basic entry-level EV,” Michael added.
Giranda agreed: “The Bolt also boasts a spacious interior for its class, making it an excellent choice for urban commuters looking to maximize efficiency without compromising on space.”

Nissan Leaf
MSRP: $29,280
“Known as one of the pioneers in electric vehicles,” Giranda said of the Nissan Leaf, which has all the bells and whistles you’d want in an EV. Under the hood is a 60 kWh battery and a 214 hp electric motor. Plus, there is a 240-volt Level 2 charger that can charge it in four and a half hours.
Melanie Musson, an auto industry expert with AutoInsurance, did note that the range is about 212 miles, which “is one of the downsides to the Leaf. But the low price can give you an excuse to buy one anyway and keep it for around-town driving.”
Giranda said, “It offers advanced technology like the e-Pedal, which allows drivers to accelerate and brake with a single pedal. The Leaf also features ProPILOT Assist, which provides semi-autonomous driving capabilities that enhance the driving experience.”
Hyundai Kona Electric
MSRP: $34,885
Giranda said the Hyundai Kona Electric “is praised for its impressive range of up to 258 miles and includes features like a quick-charging capability, a user-friendly infotainment system and robust safety features, making it a great value proposition for EV enthusiasts.”
Beyond that, the Kona is perfect for the on-the-go family or group of friends that require a bit more utility with cargo space that rivals options from Tesla.
“The standard model features a 48.4 kWh battery powering a 154 bhp electric motor,” said John Ellmore of Electric Car Guide. “For those needing more distance and power, the long-range version offers a 65.4 kWh battery paired with a potent 215 bhp motor.”
Kia Niro EV
MSRP: $40,975
The Niro EV offers a range of approximately 253 miles, according to Giranda, but that’s not all. The Kia Niro comes equipped with a 201 hp electric motor, 64 kWh battery and a 240-volt Level 2 charger that can charge your EV in 9.5 hours.
Giranda added, “It distinguishes itself with a spacious cabin and cargo area, sophisticated design and an array of standard features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and a Harman Kardon audio system.”
Ford Mustang Mach-E
MSRP: $43,500
According to Giranda, “The Mach-E brings the legendary Mustang lineage into the EV arena. Its extended-range models offer a range of up to 300 miles.”
Shawn Miller, an automotive blogger at Modified Rides, said, “Combining the iconic Mustang design with electric power, the Mach-E offers various trim levels to suit different preferences, along with impressive acceleration and an estimated range of up to 300 miles.”
Giranda added, “Its appeal is enhanced by its muscular aesthetics, spirited driving dynamics and innovative technology, like the next-generation SYNC infotainment system with a 15.5-inch touchscreen.”
