The 5 Biggest Things Announced In The September Nintendo Direct

Nintendo just held a huge Nintendo Direct presentation, packed with over 30 announcements, big and small. While some of these announcements were for games already revealed previously, some of them were brand-new — and a lot of them were exciting.

Having watched the entire 40-minute Direct, we came away with five announcements that we think are the biggest from the presentation.

F-Zero 99

F-Zero has long been neglected by Nintendo, and fans of the arcade racer series have been begging for a new game for over a decade. They probably weren’t expecting this though: F-Zero is back in a new battle royale game called F-Zero 99. F-Zero 99 has you playing races from the original SNES F-Zero game against 98 other players, all on the same track at the same time. It looks absolutely wild, and although it’s not a brand-new game, it is at least an acknowledgement from Nintendo that the series still exists.

F-Zero 99 is out now on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch Online members.

Princess Peach: Showtime

A standalone Princess Peach game was announced back in the June Direct, but this is the first time we’ve been able to see it in action. It looks incredible. Princess Peach: Showtime! will have you playing as the eponymous princess to set right a bunch of disrupted stage shows. Peach will be able to transform into a wide range of different costumes – like Detective Peach and Swordfighter Peach – each of which has its own set of abilities, skills, and even gameplay styles.

Princess Peach: Showtime! will be released on the Nintendo Switch on March 22, 2024.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Remake

Arguably the internet’s favorite Paper Mario game, The Thousand Year Door, is getting a ground-up remake. It looks great, seems to play pretty much the same as the original, and is a nice way to bring the classic GameCube game to a modern console. It does tick a lot of the same boxes as the upcoming Super Mario RPG remake, but hey, who can object to more Mario RPGs?

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door will be released on the Switch in 2024.

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong is back! In a Mario vs. Donkey Kong game at least. The latest entry in the decades-spanning rivalry was announced during the Direct, and it looks pretty similar to what you’d expect. It’s Mario vs. Donkey Kong, with everything that entails, including minis, challenging levels, and more. Check it out for yourself in the trailer below.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong will be released on the Nintendo Switch on February 16, 2024.

Another Code: Recollection

Another Code: Two Memories and its sequel Another Code: R – A Journey Into Lost Memories were two utterly fantastic games on the DS and Wii, respectively, and now they’re coming to Switch. This new enhanced version of the game seems to have full voice acting, much nicer graphics, and a bunch of quality of life features. It’s looking utterly gorgeous, and it’s great that these games are getting a second chance at life.

Another Code: Recollection will be released on the Nintendo Switch on January 19, 2024.
