$5.2 million in grants coming to Monroe and Pike counties: How will the money be used?

State Reps. Maureen Madden, Tarah Probst and Jack Rader have announced about $5.2 million in grants for projects in Monroe and Pike counties.

The Local Share Account grants were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

Madden and Probst both announced a $248,437 grant for Smithfield Township, on behalf of the Marshalls Creek Fire Company, for safety improvements to two fire stations in Smithfield and Price townships. This project will install exhaust systems in both fire company garages and upgrade gear cleaning equipment and fire detection and security equipment.

Here are the rest of the grants the three representatives individually announced.

Madden, D-Monroe (115th District)

Monroe County Industrial Development Authority, $663,676 in total:

  • $250,000, on behalf of the Monroe Career and Technical Institute, for improvements to the existing building in Pocono Township, including a 15,000-square-foot addition, a new security entry point and a conference room.

  • $100,000, on behalf of the Paradise Falls Lutheran Association, for phase two of a stream restoration and fish habitat improvement project located in Paradise Township.

  • $250,000, on behalf of Pocono Mountain Regional Emergency Medical Services, to build a new ambulance station in Coolbaugh Township.

  • $63,676, on behalf of Pocono Pride Softball, for improvements to the Field of Dreams Athletic Park in Mount Pocono.

Barrett Township: $331,838 to pave the parking lots and entrance roads surrounding the Barrett Township Administrative and Recreation Complex.

Pocono Mountains Industrial Park Authority: $100,000 for the PMCC Sewer Line Connection project in Coolbaugh Township to connect the Pocono Mountains Corporate Center East business/industrial park to the spray irrigation sewage treatment facility.

Pocono Township: $200,000 to replace a pedestrian bridge in TLC Park.

Probst, D-Monroe/Pike (189th District)

Monroe County Industrial Development Authority, $1,211,033 in total:

  • $423,588, on behalf of Family Promise of the Poconos, to acquire properties for affordable housing in East Stroudsburg.

  • $17,556, on behalf of Metamorphosis Women's Empowerment Initiative, to purchase a multipurpose van to facilitate feeding homebound women and their families in Stroudsburg.

  • $100,000, on behalf of the Pocono Center for the Arts, to purchase and renovate the building at 729 Main St. in Stroudsburg.

  • $310,000, on behalf of the Monroe County Historical Association, to purchase furniture and furnishings at the Stroud Mansion Museum in Stroudsburg. The project proposes to create a center for the visual and performing arts by acquiring and renovating a property.

  • $135,000, on behalf of the Pocono Family YMCA, to renovate its facility in Stroudsburg.

  • $50,000, on behalf of the Smithfield Sewer Authority, for phase two of the Seven Bridge Road sanitary sewer expansion in Smithfield Township.

  • $164,889, on behalf of the Stroud Area Regional Police Department, for two police vehicles for use throughout East Stroudsburg.

  • $10,000, on behalf of Twin Lakes Estates POA, to resolve stormwater drainage issues on Seven Bridge Road in Smithfield Township.

Pike County Economic Development Authority, $250,000 in total:

  • $50,000, on behalf of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, to replace and renovate a playground on church property in Delaware Township.

  • $75,000, on behalf of the Pocono Environmental Education Center, to replace three existing outdated/dilapidated cabins at the center in Dingman Township.

  • $50,000, on behalf of Pocono Ranch Lands, to replace a water storage tank in Lehman Township.

  • $75,000, on behalf of the Glen at Tamiment, to replace drainage pipes in Lehman Township.

Stroudsburg: $250,000 to rehabilitate and repair the Ann Street parking garage.

Delaware Water Gap: $45,132 to purchase an emergency generator for the borough hall.

Jack Rader, R-Monroe (176th District)

Monroe County Industrial Development Authority, $1,062,668 in total:

  • $355,845 for building renovations and repaving projects at Camp Papillon Animal Shelter.

  • $92,398 for repairs to bridge over Buckwha Creek in Eldred Township.

  • $47,040 for repaving parking lot at Five Loaf House food pantry in Tobyhanna Township.

  • $22,012 for replacement of HVAC system at Five Loaf House in Tobyhanna Township.

  • $33,503 for purchase of rescue tools and equipment by Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Company.

  • $134,820 for repair and repaving of parking lot at Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company fire station.

  • $250,000 for renovations and improvements at Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in Hamilton Township.

  • $86,100 for exterior renovations at Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company’s main station.

  • $40,950 for exterior renovations at Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company’s Jonas substation.

Chestnuthill Township: $225,000 for parking lot repaving project at American Legion Post 927.

Chestnuthill Township: $300,000 for stormwater management system along Woods Crossing in Country Terrace Acres subdivision.

Hamilton Township: $120,000 for purchase of a mower and accessories.

Ross Township: $164,975 for culvert replacement project along Mt. Eaton Road.

Tunkhannock Township: $61,585 for purchase of new portable radios by Tunkhannock Volunteer Fire Company.
