$47 to see Giants host Packers? Ticket prices fall, except for home game against the Chiefs

GREEN BAY — With one notable exception, ticket prices for the next four Green Bay Packers games got cheaper during the past week.

The exception, of course, is the Sunday Night Football game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 3. That is the game for which it can be surmised that Taylor Swift will attend to watch boyfriend Travis Kelce play tight end for the Chiefs. Kelce and Swift, arguably the most popular musical performer in the world, have regularly attended one another's events when their schedules allowed. Kelce showed up in Argentina for a Swift concert during the Chiefs' bye week and Swift has been a regular attendee at Chiefs game. Her The Eras tour in South America is scheduled to conclude before the game at Lambeau Field.

The average get-in price on Monday for the Packers-Chiefs game was $164, compared with $152 on Nov. 13. The price is determined by averaging the lowest prices of 11 secondary marketplaces.

Before then, the Packers travel to Detroit to play the Lions on Thanksgiving morning. The Packers playing in Detroit on Thanksgiving is a tradition of sorts. Green Bay played 36 Thanksgiving Day games in 104 seasons for a 15-19-2 record. The average get-in price for Thursday's game was $296, compared with $355 last week. The precipitous drop can be attributed to the fact that most families' schedules are set for Thanksgiving and either they decided to go to the game or not.

The Packers showed a bit of improvement on Sunday, defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 23-20 at Lambeau Field. Thursday's game will be a different matter. The Lions are 8-2 and leading the division. They are thought to be one of the NFC's better teams, although ...

The Lions, who last won the division in 1993, almost Lioned on Sunday, barely beating the Chicago Bears 31-26, rallying from 12 points down with three minutes left in the game.

The next two games are bargains for fans, although in the world of secondary markets, that usually means something is lacking. Among ticket price variables are time, location, opponent, weather and how well a team is playing. The New York Giants at 3-8 and the Tampa Buccaneers at 4-6 are not having great years and fans are not clamoring to see games between them and the Packers.

The average get-in price for the Giants game in New Jersey on Dec. 11 is $41, down from $47 last week. It doesn't help that it's a Monday night game, which makes it convenient only for local Packers fans.

Although the Tampa Bay game is at noon at Lambeau Field, usually a sweet spot for Packers fans, even in December, the price on Monday was $73, down from $84 in August. The lowest face-value ticket in Lambeau Field is $129.

Ticket prices

For our look at Packers' tickets prices, we average the lowest ticket prices at 11 secondary-market websites: Event USA, Gametime, Green Bay Ticket Service, SeatGeek, StubHub, TicketIQ, Ticket King, Ticketmaster, TickPick, TicketSmarter and Vivid Seats.

Note that ticket brokers can add fees on top of the prices listed here, so actual costs might be higher.

The Packers announced they will sell standing-room-only tickets for all home games this season. The face value of SRO tickets is $93. The SRO section is on the fourth level of the south end zone.

As the standing-room-only tickets are designated as not available for resale, any tickets found on the secondary market cannot be verified, so buyers should proceed at their own risk. If fans purchase standing-room-only tickets on the secondary market and encounter issues with the tickets, their only recourse would be to contact the ticket seller.

The get-in price averages do not include standing-room-only tickets.

The following are secondary market ticket prices as of Nov. 20:

Nov. 23, 11:30 a.m., Ford Field, Detroit Lions, Fox

Face-price range: N/A

Average lowest-cost seat: $296

Price on Nov. 13: $355

Range of lowest-cost seats: $234-$394

Lions results: Detroit is 8-2. The Lions defeated the Chicago Bears 31-26 on Sunday.

What matters about this game? Detroit defeated the Packers 34-20 on Sept. 28 at Lambeau Field. Detroit fancied itself a Super Bowl contender, especially after defeating the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in their season opener, but subsequent loses to the Seattle Seahawks and the Baltimore Ravens called into question whether they were on THAT level, and Sunday's squeaker against the Bears didn't settle the question.

They say there are no moral victories in the NFL, but a strong Packers performance in Detroit, even if they lose, would go a ways toward confirming that the very young Packers are indeed improving.

This is the second Thursday prime time game the Packers and Lions play this year.

Dec. 3, 7:20 p.m., Lambeau Field, Kansas City Chiefs, NBC

Face-price range: $129-$165

Average lowest-cost seat: $164

Price on Nov. 13: $152

Range of lowest-cost seats: $130-$325

Chiefs results: Kansas City is 7-2. The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.

What matters about this game? The Packers have seven games remaining this season and three of them are against teams contending for playoff spots, including the Lions, Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings, who, even though they stumbled against the resurging Denver Broncos Sunday night, always are a challenge for the Packers.

On the plus side, the Packers will have nine days off before the Chiefs game, which will give them time to deal with their running back situation, after losing two of three ball carriers to injury on Sunday.

Dec. 11, 7:15 p.m., MetLife Stadium, New York Giants, ABC

Face-price range: N/A

Average lowest-cost seat: $41

Price on Nov. 13: $47

Range of lowest-cost seats: $34-$48

Giants results: New York is 3-8. The Giants defeated the Washington Commanders 31-19 on Sunday.

What matters about this game? The Giants showed a bit of life themselves on Sunday, defeating the Commanders behind backup quarterback Tommy Devito. It's hard to get excited about this game, thus the fire-sale price, but this could be the first of three winnable games by the Packers, so there's that.

Dec. 17, noon, Lambeau Field, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Fox

Face-price range: $129-$165

Average lowest-cost seat: $73

Price in August: $84

Range of lowest-cost seats: $50-$95

Bucs results: Tampa Bay is 4-6. The Buccaneers lost to the San Francisco 49ers 27-14 on Sunday.

What matters about this game? No Aaron Rodgers, no Tom Brady, no Super Bowl aspirations for either team, so little interest. But if you've ever wanted to experience the Frozen Tundra when it might, in fact, be frozen, this is the chance at a reasonable price.

Also, Tampa in Green Bay in the cold brings to mind the Snow Bowl on Dec. 1, 1985, when Bucs quarterback Steve Young looked like he got lost on the way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Packers quarterback Lynn Dickey looked like the hall of famer he would have been with two better knees. The Packers won 21-0 in a blizzard.
