And as shopping-obsessed design editors, we want to shine a well-deserved, historically important light on the people and brands who had, and continue to have, a huge impact on the way we live. From wooden furniture crafted using traditional Chinese joinery techniques to dinnerware sets hand- and mouth-blown by glass artisans, these pieces are not only gorgeous to display in your home, but many are also made with tradition in mind. Glasvin

Michelin star-quality glassware, meet your dinner table. Glasvin CEO David Kong creates his company's hand-blown wine glasses at an affordable price by working directly with expert artisans. His collections include several types of wine glasses, such as The Expression, a glass that helps you take in the full aromas of the wine, are used in top-rated restaurants across the United States.

LIKHÂ

While LIKHÂ founder Nathalie Lim started out making adorable dog-inspired planters, she has since expanded into all types of hand-woven home goods, kitchen essentials, and accessories enlisting Filipino artisans who use traditional techniques. Her ethical business model also includes making products like this floor basket with sustainable ingredients such as manila hemp, selling goods at affordable rates, and giving her artisans get an equitable cut.

Blueland

After welcoming her first child, Sarah Paiji Yoo became increasingly aware that the disposable plastic products she tossed out could contribute to the microplastics that contaminate water and food. In turn, she feared these toxins could find their way into what she fed her baby. Since she struggled to find self-care products like lotion and toothpaste made sans plastic packaging, she co-founded Blueland, a clean line of reusable packaged goods like laundry detergents and personal care.

Mala the Brand

What started out as a passion project after her day job turned into a fully fledged candle business for Melody Lim. Nearly five years ago, the Mala the Brand founder took her savings and committed six months working alongside her mom to create sustainable, small batch candles. Verloop

Designed with fun colors and functional knits, Verloop was founded on Ella Lim's love of her family. She shadowed her mother in a Philippines-based knitting factory growing up. She began making knits as a creative outlet, however, it turned into purpose by using the company's leftover deadstock yarn to make multicolored wearable items and home goods.

Sun at Six

Antares and Capella Yee are siblings and the founders of Sun at Six, a furniture studio dedicated to preserving the traditional art of Chinese joinery. This technique includes making solid hardwood furniture without nails and screws. You can find modern pieces for every part of your home in their collection, which spans bedroom and dining room furniture to storage and accent pieces, and more.

Omsom

The inspiration behind sisters Vanessa and Kim Pham's brand starts with its name. They describe the Vietnamese phrase om sòm as noisy and rambunctious, the same phrase their parents would use to scold them as kids. The founders incorporate this energy in everything from their noodles to sauces that explore customary Asian flavors and communities.

MìLà

Jen Liao and Caleb Wang's journey to founding MìLà actually started when they were dating. After bonding over winter sports, their shared sense of humor, and heritage as second generation Chinese Americans, the pair pursued their brand as a way to honor their family’s histories. As food entrepreneurs, their mission is to create cuisine like their fan-favorite soup dumplings and Chinese noodles that showcase how these staples deserve a permanent place in the American food landscape.

Ettitude

When Ettitude Founder and CEO Phoebe Yu couldn't find luxe, sustainable, and functional home goods in the market, she decided to make some of her own a decade ago. Her bedding and bath towel collection embraces an "eco-attitude" with patented CleanBamboo technology. In other words, it's clean, thanks to its makeup of lyocell material made from organic bamboo and a food-grade organic solvent, unlike some other manufacturers that use toxin-filled viscose or rayon.

Brightland

Food has been a love language for Brightland founder Aishwarya Iyer dating back to her childhood with family. Since she couldn't quite bottle up the experiences of sharing meals with them, she decided to launch her organic olive oil and vinegar brand to cook up new memories. Her journey launching her business helped her learn more about her roots, including family members who worked as salt farmers in Tamil Nadu, South India. This not only allowed her to deepen her love for food, but it also gave her a greater appreciation for the organic ingredients like heirloom olives and farm-fresh fruit that she includes in her products.

Phlur

To entrepreneur Chriselle Lim, fragrance is an extension of style and storytelling. As the new CEO and creative director of Phlur, she imparts her experience owning and operation fashion and beauty brands to create fine perfumes. And most importantly, she hopes this will allow her candles to help shoppers narrate their own moods.

Apothékary

Shizu Okusa left her finance career on Wall Street to start Apothékary, a wellness brand that infuses her Japanese roots and passion for holistic health into home herbal blends. The company's offerings include products like a wine-inspired alcohol alternative tincture made with soothing herbal ingredients.

Fotile

Mao Lixiang is the founder of Fotile, one of China's biggest kitchen appliance brands. Created over 25 years ago, the brand offers both large and small appliances in its portfolio, from its range hoods and gas cooktops to countertop convection ovens and in-sink dishwashers.

Kyte Baby

After CEO and founder Ying Liu noticed her youngest daughter constantly trying to cool down her skin from chronic eczema, she set out to create Kyte Baby. Today, the bamboo-based brand offers an array of adult clothing and home collections made with sustainable materials.

Our Place

Pakistani entrepreneur and social activist Shiza Shahid created her multifunctional cookware line in 2019 to help continue making connections across the kitchen table. The Perfect Pot does the work of a stockpot, Dutch oven, saucepot, roasting rack, steamer, strainer, braiser, and a spoon rest.

Material

For a set of kitchen essentials, Material sells a Japanese stainless steel set that consists of multiple knives, tongs, a wooden spoon, a metal spoon, a slotted spatula, an air whisk, a slotted spoon, and the wooden base. The brand, created by friends Eunice Byun and David Nguyen, who sought to honor their Korean and Vietnamese traditions, also offers prepware, pots and pans, plates, bowls, and other kitchen tools.

Onsen

Created by Shane Monson, Onsen sells bath towels, robes, dryer balls, and other fluffy cloths that have Monson's Japanese culture on the forefront. The towels have a waffle weave that helps make drying off a quick effort.

Founded by Taiwan natives Ming Yi and Ching Yeh Chen, the New York-based Pearl River Mart offers just about everything—from dinnerware and cookware to wall decor and art.

Boy Smells

David Kien co-founded the now-iconic candle brand, Boy Smells alongside his partner Matthew Herman. Both Kien and Herman transitioned from longtime careers in fashion to the home space, infusing their products with that luxury touch from their previous jobs. They created first-of-their-kind scents like LES, a candle that pays homage to one of New York City's many cross-cultural neighborhoods, the Lower East Side. It's infused with notes of rice powder, peach blossom, and cardamom.

Outer

Jiake Liu and Terry Lin founded Outer in 2018 to inspire homeowners to rethink their outdoor space and elevate it! The brand uses sustainable materials and innovative technology to create weather-resistant furniture that will last.

Anyday

Co-founded by chef Steph Chen, Anyday will inspire you to use your microwave for more than leftovers. Anyday cookware was specifically designed to break the stigma that your microwave can create delicious and nutritious meals.

Poketo

Husband-and-wife team Ted Vadakan and Angie Myung founded Poketo, an online store with two LA-based retail locations. It sells loads of fun stationery, dinnerware, books, artwork, games, and more.

Hast

Korean American Tariq Dixon scours design scenes around the globe to curate a stylish assortment of furniture and home accessories for this home brand, which he runs out of his own live/work space in Manhattan.

Stori Modern

Wing on Wo & Co.

As the oldest continually-run family business in New York's Chinatown, Wing On Wo & Co. specializes in high quality porcelain ware. It's run by fifth-generation owner Mei Lum, who is also the founder and director of The W.O.W. Society Social

Named one of our Best Home Stores in America, Society Social was founded in 2011 by Filipino-American Roxy Te, who adapted artisan techniques from the Philippines to her trademark grasscloth and rattan items. Virginia Sin

Eny Lee Parker

Eny Lee Parker started her company in Queens before moving to Savannah, Georgia, where she now produces unique furniture, lighting, accessories, and, most recently, rugs.

Franca—founded by Sierra Yip-Bannicq—is a ceramics dreamland. There, you'll find everything from planters to dinnerware, and even dog bowls!

Laverée

Jong Min Baek, a luxury and fashion entrepreneur, launched the most beautiful detergent products you will ever set your eyes upon. The clean design is matched by the eco-friendly, all-natural ingredients found in each bottle. You may actually want up to finish your laundry thanks to the incredible scent, and you won't feel bad leaving the bottle out for guests to see.

ILHA Candles

Wok Shop

Based in San Francisco’s Chinatown, The Wok Shop is family-owned and specializes in hard-to-find Asian cooking tools. There's a huge selection of woks, rice cookers, pans, pickling jars, knives, and sushi-making tools.

Maaari

Run by two Filipina-American women, Ivy Faye Ocampo and Jeanette Sawyer, Maari offers home goods, accessories, and jewelry. Each piece is inspired by Filipino culture and made with sustainability in mind.

Tantuvi Studio

Produced by Indian designer Arati Rao, Tantuvi is about reimagining what handmade in India can be. Tantuvi, launched in 2015, sells cotton, hemp, and silk rugs that all focus on merging sandstone-colored landscapes with native architecture.

Hudson Wilder

Joyce Liao created Hudson Wilder with the intention of being modern, classic, and simple. The Aita Short Glasses are multi-purposeful and made with borosilicate glass, the same glass used for Pyrex dishes—and have a thermal shock-resistant finish.
