A 42-year-old woman died Sunday morning from injuries after she was hit by a vehicle in Arlington, authorities said Monday.

The woman was identified as Aisha Z. Wells, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website. She died at 10:46 a.m. Sunday at an Arlington hospital.

The accident occurred at about 11:58 p.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of New York Ave. in Arlington.

Investigators believe the pedestrian was attempting to cross New York Avenue when she was struck by a Ford Expedition traveling southbound along the roadway. The victim was not using a designated crosswalk at the time, Arlington police said.

The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, and died Sunday morning.

The driver of the Expedition remained on scene after the accident and cooperated with investigators. She is not facing any criminal charges in connection to this incident, Arlington police said.

Arlington police noted that pedestrians should always use traffic lights and designated crosswalks when crossing roadways. Cutting across a roadway is dangerous at all times of the day, but particularly when it’s dark outside and visibility is reduced.
