You no longer need a college degree to get a high-paying job. Many of the top companies in the U.S., including Walmart, Amazon, Apple, Uber and Nike, have removed degree requirements from some job postings. But you don’t need to work for a major corporation to get rich.

Here are a few ways to get rich without a college degree.

Sales Jobs

Many sales jobs do not require a degree, and you can improve your skills through both on-the-job experience and by reading books about sales strategies. Jonaed Iqbal, the founder of NoDegree.com — a resource for those without degrees to find available opportunities — recommends starting your sales career as a business development representative (BDR) or sales development representative (SDR).

“You can learn a lot of the fundamentals to get started from the books ‘Never Split the Difference’ by Chris Voss, ‘Outbound Sales, No Fluff’ by Ryan Reisert [and Rex Biberston], and ‘Outbounding’ by William Miller,” he said.

“Some people start off with a commission-only job and then transition,” Iqbal continued. “The eventual goal is to work your way up to an enterprise sales role. People can make good money as an account executive.”

Marketing Jobs

Marketing is another career field where you can thrive without a college degree. Instead, focus on honing your skills on your own.

“For marketing careers, you can learn some of the fundamentals from Salesforce Trailhead or HubSpot Academy,” Iqbal said. “There are loads of free courses. Facebook Blueprint has a lot of knowledge about Facebook Ads.”

There are many paths to choose from if you decide to go this route.

“People can start as a marketing associate and move up to various domains,” Iqbal said.

Tech Jobs

The technology field is another area where your relevant skills can be more important than having a degree.

“For programming [jobs], people should learn a front-end or back-end language,” Iqbal said. “W3 Schools and Free Code Camp have free resources to get started. Boot camps are another option. I highly recommend people at least try to learn things through free resources, and only go to a boot camp once they learn the fundamentals.”

Another career path in the technology sector is cloud-related jobs.

“People can study for the AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud certifications,” Iqbal said.

Buy Rental Properties

Another way to build wealth that does not require a degree is to buy rental properties.

“Equity from the rentals builds as properties appreciate, while rental income is used to pay down mortgages faster,” said Ryan Barone, CEO at RentRedi. “The equity and income generated from one property can be used to purchase an additional property, and you can continue to build and scale your portfolio by reinvesting profits from existing properties into new ones.”

There are plenty of resources available to help you get started if this is an avenue you would like to pursue.

“Becoming a landlord is not as complex and time-consuming as it once was,” Barone said. “There are plenty of educational resources, such as BiggerPockets and Lady Landlords, as well as trade organizations and Facebook groups that provide a wealth of information, valuable tips and access to helpful tools.”
