3 restaurants in Beaufort County given ‘B’ grades in September health inspections

Three Beaufort County restaurants, each in a different part of the county, were cited with grades below an A in routine health inspections in September by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.

  • Burger King, at 2434 Boundary St. in Beaufort, scored an 85% (B) in an inspection on Sept. 9. Inspectors cited hand-washing issues, buildup on an ice machine and soda machine, cleaning chemical labeling issues, evidence of insects and rodents, garbage storage issues and floor cleaning issues. The restaurant was reinspected on Sept. 16 and scored a 95% (A).

  • Cinco, at 102 Buckwalter Parkway in Bluffton, scored an 83% (B) in an inspection on Sept. 26. Inspectors cited hand-washing issues, cleaning chemical labeling issues, insects on the prep line and beverage station, food storage issues and floor cleaning issues. The restaurant was reinspected on Oct. 3 and scored a 100% (A).

  • Fraser’s Tavern at Sea Pines Resort, 100 N. Sea Pines Drive on Hilton Head Island, scored an 82% (B) on Sept. 27. Inspectors cited hand-washing issues, food temperature issues, and organic matter on edges of an ice bin and gaskets. The restaurant was reinspected on Oct. 5 and scored a 100% (A).

From Sept. 1-30, DHEC recorded 123 inspections of restaurants, schools, grocery stores and other food establishments in Beaufort County. The agency publishes the results of health inspections on its website.

Inspectors hand out a grade of A, B or C, depending on the conditions found at the time. Points are docked for a variety of infractions, and restaurants have a chance to correct the problems and improve their score.
