3 men drown in Texas lake after boat overturns during storm

Three men died over the weekend after their boat overturned in a Texas lake during a storm.

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office said four men were in a small boat on Lake Lavon, near Plano, when a strong storm hit the area on Saturday night around 8:45 p.m.

One of the four men was able to hold onto a tree and then call for help, but the three others disappeared. The man holding onto the tree was rescued by Texas Game Wardens, who immediately began searching for the other three.

One of the men’s bodies was found Sunday morning, one was found Sunday evening and the third was found Monday morning.

Two of the deceased men were identified as as Jose Dominguez, 60, and Rafael Olea, 28, according to WFAA.

The sheriff’s office said none of the men were wearing life jackets, but it’s unclear if life jackets were on the boat.

“It’s devastating, especially on Father’s Day weekend. I don’t know if they were fathers, but I can’t imagine being a member of the family just having to wait and see and hoping for the best,” witness Erin McGill told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
