3 Detroit Wing Company franchise locations temporarily close

Three franchise locations of locally based Detroit Wing Company (DWC) have shuttered. DWC locations in Davison, Grand Blanc and Oxford are listed as temporarily closed, according to the company's website.

Gus Malliaras, in a statement, confirmed the three locations were operated by a franchisee and are closed.

“We regretfully confirm that the independent franchisee operator of these three locations did, in fact, close their doors, though our corporate team is diligently working to reopen all three locations as soon as possible," Malliaras said.

Several social media posts indicated that the three locations closed without warning.

According to DWC, they "cannot comment on the specifics of this situation" but are working to reopen the locations as well as prioritizing retaining as many team members as possible."

Employees affected by the closures and who want to work at a different location should contact corporate offices, he said.

DWC spokesman Justin Near of Near Perfect Media said those locations are under corporate management.

Detroit Wing Co. specializes in fresh, natural, bone-in and boneless chicken wings. Its wings are offered with a choice of nearly two dozen sauces. The sauces, from mild to hot to lemon pepper and teriyaki, are handmade fresh. DWC is also known for its variety of sides, such as its fries with melted cheddar and poutine with fries or tater tots.

The chain got its start in 2015 when Malliaras opened its first location in Eastpointe. DWC now operates 31 corporate and franchise-operated locations, with most in Michigan. Others are in Florida, Indiana and Ohio. Before starting the company, Malliaras owned a coney island in Warren.
