3 bodies recovered, police still searching for 2 more after tubers go missing in North Carolina

Search-and-rescue teams in Danville, N.C., have recovered the bodies of three individuals who went missing while going tubing near a dam. Two others have yet to be found.

Officials from Danville and the neighboring Rockingham County are working together to find the remains of the tubers. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is also assisting in the search and rescue effort.

On Wednesday night, nine people fell into the water near a dam operated by Duke Energy. As of Thursday night, four individuals who were spotted by Duke Energy workers were recovering in the hospital.

According to Lt. Kevin Southard of the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, the tubers may have fallen over the dam.

Crews will be conducting one final search on Thursday night before resuming their search on Friday morning at 6 a.m.
