The 26 MetroWest and Milford area girls track and field athletes to watch in 2024

These faces may seem familiar. There are 11 returning Daily news All-Stars, and many of them excelled in both the winter indoor and fall cross country seasons.

Wellesley won the Division 2 girls team title last spring, but with this much talent back more programs could raise trophies in 2024.

Make sure to keep an eye on these 26 MetroWest and Milford area girls track and field athletes to watch:

Margaret Bowles, Sr., Dover-Sherborn

She reached the podium in both the mile and two-mile, taking fourth in both at the Division 4 state championships last spring. The TVL all-star also competed at the Meet of Champions.

Jaina Campbell, Sr., Medway

She placed third in the high jump and fourth in the Division 5 pentathlon last spring. In her heptathlon debut, the volleyball player and figure skater scored 3,274 points at the MSTCA event. She also competed at the Meet of Champions and New Balance Nationals. This winter, Bowles was sixth in the two-mile at the Division 4 meet and qualified for the Meet of Champions.

Loryn Canty, Sr., Hopkinton

She didn't lose a 100, 200 or shot put event during the league season and was part of an unbeaten 4x100 relay, as the Hillers kept their unbeaten streak dating back to 2001 alive. She was the team MVP and a TVL all-star. Canty took sixth in the 100 at the Division 2 outdoor championships and ninth in the shot put, advancing to the meet of champions in both events. She posted top-10 finishes in the 55 and shot put at the Division 2 indoor championships this winter and qualified for the Meet of Champions.

Annie Comella, Jr. Wellesley

She set both the Raiders school record and the Division 2 meet record with an 18-foot, 1.25-inch long jump that won the divisional title last spring. Comella took silver at the Meet of Champions and landed in the top 15 at New Balance Nationals. The Bay State Conference all-star added a silver in the Division 2 200. She won the long jump at this winter's Meet of Champions and was fourth in the 55. Comella won the 55 at the Division 2 meet and was second in the 300 and long jump.

Lily Deforge, Sr., Franklin

She captured the Division 1 state discus title a year ago and a bronze medal in the shot put. Deforge is the Panthers record holder in both events. The Hockomock All-Star qualified for both events at the New Balance Nationals and was a league champ in the discus. This winter, she finished second at the Meet of Champions in the shot put and was fifth in the weight throw.

Delaney Dyer, Jr., Wellesley

She competed in the outdoor Meet of Champions in the 800 last spring. Dyer led off the Raiders' indoor Meet of Champions 4x800 relay, which captured the title. She took fourth in the 1,000 at the Division 2 meet and ran on Wellesley's first-place 4x4 and 4x8 relays.

Averie Denelle, Sr., Tri-County

Her name is on five school records already. Denelle took second in the Division 6 high jump and was the Mayflower Conference champion in the long jump en route to an all-star nod. She placed seventh in the rising stars division at the New Balance Nationals. This winter she added a Division 5 high jump championship and competed at the Meet of Champions.

Abby Desmarais, Sr., Framingham

One of the state's best sprinters was both the team MFP and the Flyers' Female Athlete of the Year. Desmarais won divisional and league titles in the 100 last spring and was second in the Division 1 200. Desmarais finished second in the 100 at the Meet of Champions and took fourth in the 200. This winter, the Holy Cross signee stacked even more medals. Desmarais won the 300 at the meet of champions and Division 1 meet and added a Division 1 title in the 55. Framingham's 4x400 relay, which she anchored, was second in Division 1.

Sarah Dumas, Sr., Franklin

One of the state's best all-around athletes has one more high school track season left. She won the Meet of Champions pentathlon and earned another All-American honor when she took second at the 2023 outdoor New Balance Nationals. Dumas won three Hockomock titles (100 hurdles, 400 hurdles and high jump) and was the league MVP. This winter the Penn signee added another All-American nod with a third-place finish at New Balance nationals. Dumas also placed third in the 55 hurdles at the Meet of Champions after winning the Division 1 championship.

Emmanuella Edozien, So., Natick

She burst onto the scene this winter, placing third in the Division 1 girls 55-meter dash and fifth in the 55 hurdles. Edozien then took seventh at the Meet of Champions in the 55 and eighth in the hurdles.

Savannah Gao, Sr., Hudson

The javelin expert captured her second consecutive Division 5 title last spring then was third at the Meet of Champions. She took second at the Central Mass. Division 1 championships and holds the school record.

Caitlyn Heus-Smith, Jr., Wayland

She qualified for two events at last spring's Meet of Champions as a sophomore. Heus-Smith was second in the triple-jump at the Division 4 championships and took ninth in the long jump.

Elizabeth Hopkins, Sr., Franklin

The Panthers' school record holder captured javelin championships at both the Meet of Champions and Division 1 meet. She was also 16th in the Meet of Champions shot put after finishing sixth in Division 1 in that event and 14th in the discus.

Josie Hopkins, Jr., Hopkinton

She staked her claim among the state's best athletes with a 10th-place finish in the Meet of Champions Pentathlon in the spring. Hopkins was fourth in the Division 2 pentathlon. This winter, she took fifth in the 55 at the Division 2 meet and sixth in the long jump.

Maggie Kuchman, Jr., Holliston

She captured a Division 4 800 championship last spring and was second in the two-mile. Kuchman also contributed to a championship 4x8 relay. She was the TVL Showcase champion in the mile and 800. She's off to a remarkable start this school year, as well. Kuchman was the Division 2 state cross country champion in the fall then took second in the Division 4 girls 1,000 and two-mile indoors, as the Panthers won the team championship.

Olivia LaBelle, Sr., Algonquin

She took second in the 400 hurdles, fourth in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the pole vault, as the Titans won the Division 1 Central Mass. team title last spring. She added two top-10 finishes at the Division 2 state meet and qualified for the Meet of Champions. This winter she was sixth in the 55 hurdles at the Meet of Champions and helped Algonquin's 4x2 relay take second. LaBelle won the Division 2 title in the 55 hurdles, as the Titans won the 4x2 relay.

Sasha Lamakina, So., Framingham

The Bay State Conference all-star was third in the 800 at last spring's Meet of Champions. She opened the track season strong indoors with a second-place finish in the 600 at the Meet of Champions. Lamakina was also first in the 600 at the Division 1 meet and helped the Flyers 4x4 take second.

Angela Leavey, Jr., Natick

The Bay State Conference all-star competed in both the javelin and shot put at last spring's Meet of Champions. She was second in the Javelin and third in the shot put at the Division 2 meet.

Annabelle Lynch, Jr., Holliston

She was fifth in the mile and sixth in the 800 at last year's Division 4 championships, qualifying her for the Meet of Champions. Lynch reached the same stage this winter and took seventh in the 1,000. She helped Holliston win the Division 4 team title with a third-place run in the 1,000.

Gabrielle Pierre, Jr., Lincoln-Sudbury

She placed second in the Division 2 long jump last spring and was fourth in the meet of champions. Pierre holds the long jump school record indoors and outdoors. She won the Jim Hoar Freshman-Sophomore Invitational. This winter, she was second at the Meet of Champions in the long jump after taking the Division 1 title.

Riley Restic, So., Nipmuc

She debuted with Central Mass. Division titles in both the 100-and 400-meter hurdles. Restic took fourth in the 100 hurdles at the Division 5 state meet and fourth in the 400 hurdles at the Meet of Champions. She competed at both the New England Championships and New Balance Outdoor Nationals.

Brooke Scott, Sr., Medway

She finished just off the 100-meter dash podium in fourth at last spring's Division 4 championships. Scott also raced to seventh in the 200 at divisionals and qualified for the Meet of Champions. She was fourth in the 55 at the indoor Division 4 meet this winter and anchored the Mustangs' second-place 4x2 relay.

Elyse Srodawa, Jr., Hopkinton

She didn't lose a two-mile during the regular season and added titles at the Freshman-Sophomore meet and the TV showcase. Srodawa took fifth in Division 2 and eighth at the Meet of Champions. She was a TLV all-star and Hopkinton's track athlete of the year. Indoors, she placed second in the Division 2 two-mile and competed at the Meet of Champions.

Charlotte Tuxbury, Jr., Wellesley

She was a Bay State Conference all-star and took second in both the 800 and mile at last spring's Meet of Champions. Wellesley won the Division 2 team title, where she was on the podium twice. Tuxbury hit another gear this winter, winning the mile at the Meet of Champions and anchoring the Raiders' first-place 4x8 relay. She also won the Division 2 mile and ran on the Wellesley's winning 4x4 and 4x8 relays, as the Raiders raised their sixth straight Division 2 team trophy.

Indoor queens: Wellesley's girls distance crew dominates MIAA indoor track & field meet of champions

Emma Tuxbury, So., Wellesley

She qualified for last spring's Meet of Champions in the 800 as a freshman. Tuxbury was third in both the mile and 800 at the outdoor Division 2 championships. She ran on Wellesley's Meet of Champions gold-medal 4x8 this winter and competed in the mile individually. Tuxbury also helped the Raiders win both the 4x8 and 4x4 at the Division 2 championships, ensuring another team title.

Emily Williams, Sr., Lincoln-Sudbury

She placed fifth in the 400 hurdles at last spring's Meet of Champions after finishing fourth a the Division 2 meet. Williams was named a Dual County League all-star.
