ProMusica Chamber Orchestra is collaborating on a musical residency with Emmy, Grammy and Academy Award-winning artist Jon Batiste, with the support of a Columbus Performing Arts Prize, awarded by the Columbus Foundation on Thursday.

The $25,000 prize is to fund the world premiere of an original work by Batiste that was commissioned by ProMusica. The Columbus Performing Arts Prize celebrates and supports the exceptional artistic directors of local performing-arts groups and their endeavors for creative growth.

David Danzmayr, music director of ProMusica, was one of the first recipients when the prize was introduced in 2015.

Jon Batiste to perform with ProMusica

Batiste is set to perform two concerts with ProMusica at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Southern Theatre, 21 E. Main St.

On Thursday, Batiste and his jazz trio are to perform with the orchestra, while Friday's concert features his talents as a composer, pianist and soloist with ProMusica.

The latter show, "An American Original: Jon Batiste & ProMusica," is also to include the world premiere of Batiste’s new original work.
