21-year-old woman charged in crash death of motorcyclist in Carrboro

A 21-year-old woman has been charged in the death of a motorcyclist after a crash last Wednesday, the Carrboro Police Department said.

On May 24, Carrboro police officers responded to a crash at around 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of N.C. 54 and Abbey Lane outside of a residential complex near the Smith Level Road exit.

Julius Stuart, 21, of Chapel Hill, was hospitalized with serious injuries and later died after being hit on his motorcycle by a car.

Coral Maxwell was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle in the case, according to a news release. She was initially charged at the scene with failure to yield.

Authorities believe Maxwell failed to yield the right of way to Stuart when turning and then struck him.

Maxwell is scheduled to appear in Orange County court on June 12.
