During the 2020 election, Joe Biden promised Americans that he would grow the economy and look out for the middle-class.

Even being handed a booming economy from the Trump administration — especially given the pandemic burden our country faced — Biden has managed to oversee the worst inflation and energy crisis in 40 years.

Hardworking Ohioans are burdened by record high prices for including groceries, rent, gas, and other essentials, thanks to the reckless spending proposed by Biden and authorized by DC Democrats, including Sherrod Brown. The out-of-control spending is exactly what is wrong with Washington, at the expense of American families.

Inflation, and potential stagflation, is a tax on the middle-class and Americans on fixed incomes. By causing higher prices for essential goods, Americans are left with less money in their pockets. On average, Americans are spending nearly $1,000 more per month just to make ends meet, according to analysis by Republican members of the U.S. Senate Joint Economic Committee.

The Biden administration and Congressional Democrats claim that inflation is on the decline and the economy is on the upswing, but just last week, we saw inflation rise by 2.8 percent over the past year, exceeding the estimated rate. Additionally, GDP only grew by 1.6 percent, far below the estimated 2.4 percent that was predicted.

What is Biden and Brown’s solution to the stagnant economy?

Billions in tax increases on the middle class.

Biden’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget proposal includes a whopping $7 million in additional taxes, including $2 million in brand new taxes and $5 million explicitly included in the budget, thanks to his quest to let the Trump tax cuts expire.

Make no mistake, the taxes do not go to the “ultra-wealthy,” but the middle-class and small businesses. Under this bloated proposal, Main-Street job creators would be subject to a 39.6 percent top-tax rate, despite Biden’s promise to not raise taxes on small businesses.

Biden’s budget also furthers his war on American energy, slapping energy producers with $37 billion in new taxes, forcing our nation to rely even more on our adversaries for energy.

All in all, this budget - featuring a $7.3 trillion price tag - represents everything wrong with Washington.

Career politicians like Biden and Brown insist on spending our nation off of a cliff, leaving our children and grandchildren with an unsustainable national debt. Rather than cut the out-of-control spending by the federal government that occurs year after year, Biden and Brown would rather continue to force taxpayers to foot the bill for their liberal pet projects and tax increases.

As the election year is in full-swing, Democrats want you to believe that the economy is flourishing, and are attempting to raise taxes on hardworking Ohioans.

To stop this, send me to the Senate to stand up to Washington - something Sherrod Brown has never done.
