The 2024 PGA Championship started with 156 golfers on Thursday. It will soon dwindle to only the top 70 in the standings — plus ties.

After 36 holes, the major tournament at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville will cut roughly half of the field for the final two rounds of the contest. Those in contention for the title, such as Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and defending champion Brooks Koepka, likely won't have to worry about missing the cut after astounding starts to the tournament in the opening round.

Meanwhile, legendary golfer Tiger Woods projects to be on the outside looking in after shooting a 1-over par on the first 18 holes. But he's not the only major golfer at risk of missing weekend play: Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm, winners of the Masters Tournament in 2020 and 2023, respectively, are also at risk of missing the cut.
