The 89th Annual NFL Draft will begin on Thursday night at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza in Detroit, Michigan, where the top picks will be announced.

This year's draft class is a treasure trove of exceptional talent, particularly at the quarterback position. Among the standout prospects are Heisman Trophy winners Caleb Williams from USC and Jayden Daniels from LSU, along with North Carolina's Drake Maye. These young stars are all poised to impact the teams that snag them significantly, and their names are likely to be called early in the first round.

However, the 2023 Heisman Trophy runner-up from Washington, Michael Penix Jr.'s destination is uncertain. Nevertheless, the latest mock drafts suggest that he will be selected during Thursday's first round.

If all the quarterbacks expected to be picked up play out, it will mark the first time since 2021 that five quarterbacks are drafted in the first round.

2024 NFL Draft: Predicting the top 10 picks according to the latest odds

Michael Penix Jr. 2024 NFL draft predictions

Daniel Jeremiah, NFL.com: Las Vegas Raiders, No. 13 overall pick

Jeremiah writes: "I've been connecting Penix to the Raiders for more than a month now. I think they'll try to move heaven and earth to go get Jayden Daniels, but with no deal coming to fruition, Penix offers a clear upgrade over the quarterbacks they currently have on the roster."

Field Yates, ESPN: Las Vegas Raiders, No. 13 overall pick

Yates writes: "Penix remains a hot early-Round 1 name as we get closer and closer to the draft, and Las Vegas is a logical landing spot after the team made only a moderate financial investment this offseason at the quarterback spot ($14 million per year for Gardner Minshew is, by quarterback standards, considered moderate). The rocket arm of Penix launching passes all over the yard to a wide receiver duo of Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers is a whole lot of fun to envision."

Dave Richards, CBS Sports: Denver Broncos, No. 27 overall pick

Richards writes: "Denver's best possible outcome is realized: Trade down to get an extra pick and get the next-best arm in the draft (who they might have taken at 12th if they hadn't traded down). Penix has a quick-release and a strong arm to attack downfield, but he's also accurate in the short range and did an exceptional job of avoiding sacks while at Washington. His injury-plagued past is exactly that -- in the past. Denver needs someone who can give them a chance to win without being scared of the pass rush or being forced to throw short all the time. Penix, at least for a year, offers them that. He'd only get taken in SuperFlex redraft leagues with a mid-round pick, while in rookie-only drafts he'd be a second-round choice at best in a one-QB format and a mid-to-late first-rounder in SuperFlex/two-QB leagues."
