2024 GMC Sierra EV Gets 754 HP, Wild Looks, 400 Miles of Range
GMC revealed its first-ever all-electric Sierra pickup truck, dubbed simply the Sierra EV, in a press release Thursday night. Like its Silverado EV sibling, it gets a totally different look versus the ICE-powered variants and comes packing 400 miles of range from a GM Ultium battery pack.
Like most EVs, you'll find the GMC Sierra EV's battery in the floor of the truck, powering two electric motors, one at the front and another at the rear. Pop it into "Max Power" mode, and the two motors can produce a combined total of 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a claimed 0-60 time of less than 4.5 seconds—frankly ridiculous for a vehicle of this size.
When you're not driving, the GMC Sierra EV can act like a generator, offloading up to 10.2 kW of power through up to 10 outlets, allowing the user to power things like tools or an entire campsite. GMC says it could even help charge another EV. And thanks to GM's 800-volt architecture, there's 350kW charging speeds available, meaning the Sierra EV can pump 100 miles of range into the battery in roughly 10 minutes.
GMC is launching the Sierra EV with a trim called the Denali Edition 1. As such, it's packed with a ton of standard features designed specifically to upstage the likes of the Ford F-150 Lightning. Trailering-capable Super Cruise is at the top of the list, allowing hands-free driver assistance on over 400,000 miles of highway in the United States. There's also adaptive air suspension, four-wheel steering with crab-walking capabilities, and GM's ultra-cool "MultiPro Midgate," which allows the user to expand the 5-foot, 11-inch bed into the cabin by folding down the wall between the cabin and bed. Towing capacity is 9500 pounds, while payload capacity comes in at 1300 pounds.
Inside the Denali Edition 1 you'll find a gigantic 16.8-inch infotainment screen, the largest ever for the Sierra. There's also open-pore wood, aluminum, and stainless steel trim scattered throughout the cabin. Look up and you'll find a panoramic fixed glass roof.
Deliveries of the GMC Sierra Denali Edition 1 are expected to begin in early 2024, with a starting price of $108,695, including destination. Reservation books are already open. Two additional trims, the Elevation and the AT4, will become available later on for the 2025 model year. GMC expects the cheapest Sierra EV trim to start at around $50,000 once the full lineup has been revealed.
