The Washington Huskies have had a busy spring and summer adding for future seasons.

Following a stretch when the program received 14 commitments from June 20-July 14, the Huskies have 18 recruits set to join their 2023 class.

Of those, eight are projected to be additions on offense and 10 on defense.

Ten players have committed to UW’s 2023 class from high schools in California, while two have committed from in-state high schools, two from Texas high schools and one each from Colorado, Louisiana, Minnesota and South Dakota high schools.

UW’s 2023 group was considered the No. 20 recruiting class nationally and No. 2 class in the Pac-12 in this cycle by 247Sports.com following the most recent commitment on July 14.

Reed piled up 26 offers — from programs in every Power Five conference — before choosing UW three weeks after taking an official visit to the campus in June. Reed missed his junior season last fall with a knee injury, but put up impressive numbers his sophomore season, tallying 39 tackles, including two for losses, three passes defended and an interception in nine games.

Quarterback

T.F. Riggs (S.D.)

The Huskies did not sign a quarterback to their 2022 freshman class but added a three-star passer in 2023 when Kienholz announced his commitment on June 29 following an official visit. Considered the No. 37 quarterback nationally in this class and top player in South Dakota — where Huskies coach Kalen DeBoer also played high school and college football, and later won three NAIA championships as the head coach at Sioux Falls — in this cycle, Kienholz has already thrown for more than 5,000 yards in his stellar high school career. Last season as a junior, he threw for 3,359 yards and 37 touchdowns to six interceptions while completing 55 percent of his passes, and also averaged 7 yards per carry and finished with 1,165 yards and 12 scores in a 10-2 season. He collected 16 offers — including 14 from Power Five programs — and also took visits to Oregon, Texas A&M, Michigan and USC earlier this spring before choosing UW. Hatchett is the younger brother of third-year Huskies offensive lineman Geirean Hatchett, a former Northwest Nuggets and Western 100 selection by The News Tribune, who was considered the No. 8 offensive guard nationally in the 2020 class and No. 4 player in Washington during that cycle, and picked up 29 offers before deciding to stay home with the Huskies.

He collected seven offers — including four from Pac-12 schools — before announcing his commitment to UW on June 26 following an official visit. He is listed at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds and considered a three-star recruit, the No. 72 linebacker nationally in the 2023 class and No. 71 player in California. He collected 11 offers — including five from Pac-12 schools — before committing to the Huskies on June 25 following an official visit.

James was also the first four-star recruit UW added on defense in the 2023 group. He is considered the No. 27 defensive lineman in the class, the No. 33 player in Texas and a top-200 overall prospect nationally. He decommitted from Texas A&M in May before taking an unofficial visit to Oklahoma State and official visits to Utah, Auburn and UW, and collected 23 offers — including 21 from multiple programs across each Power Five conference — before choosing the Huskies. He finished with 16 tackles, including two for losses, two sacks and a fumble recovery in eight games his junior season last fall.

Listed at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, Gordon is considered a three-star recruit, the No. 93 corner nationally in the class and No. 166 player in Texas. He picked up offers from eight Division I schools before committing to the Huskies. His commitment on June 22 gave the Huskies their first addition to this class outside of the West Coast.

Edge rusher

Emerald Ridge (Wash.)

Lane spent his junior season disrupting the backfield from the line of scrimmage, and ended the season leading the Jaguars in tackles for loss (11), sacks (four), quarterback hurries (five) and caused fumbles (three). The 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive end also collected 47 total tackles in nine games. He is considered a three-star recruit, the No. 81 edge rusher nationally in the class and No. 11 player in Washington, and picked up 10 offers from Division I programs before choosing UW. Lane’s commitment on June 20 opened a 12-day stretch when the Huskies added 12 recruits to their 2023 class. He was the first in-state player to commit to UW’s 2023 class and second player from Emerald Ridge in as many seasons to commit to the Huskies, joining former Jaguars standout receiver Denzel Boston, who signed with the program during the early period in December.

RASHID WILLIAMS

Wide receiver

Pittsburg (Calif.)

Williams committed to UW on May 19 following an official visit to the school, giving the Huskies their first four-star commitment in the class. He was also the fourth consecutive recruit from a California high school — joining three-star additions Tybo Rogers (Bakersfield), Keith Reynolds (Adelanto) and Deven Bryant (St. John Bosco) — to announce this spring he would head to the Pacific Northwest to play college football. Williams, listed at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, led Pittsburg in every receiving category his junior season last fall, finishing with 55 catches for 753 yards and 11 touchdowns in 12 games.
