If you need an off-road-ready truck without all of the desert-running performance of a Raptor, Ford offers Tremor packages for its Super Duty, F-150, and Ranger lines. In each case, the Tremor package adds go-anywhere capability and some light visual changes without throwing on too many of the specialized tools that drive up the price of a dedicated trail runner. Effectively, the Tremor brand serves as a middle ground that keeps a truck useful for work while increasing the range of places it can reach to do that work. All that makes it an excellent fit for the Maverick, the smallest and least truck-like truck in the Ford lineup.

Available for both XLT and Lariat Mavericks, the Tremor package is headlined by a new-to-the-Maverick all-wheel drive system that uses a twin-clutch rear-drive unit. This allows the truck to use a differential lock feature, plus access to drive modes that optimize the truck's drive system for pavement, sand, mud, snow, and towing. While towing may seem like a surprising use of such a small truck otherwise focused on the overlap between capability and livability, Ford says the Maverick Tremor is still rated to tow a maximum of 2000 lb in addition to a maximum payload rating of 1200 lb.

The Tremor package also adds Trail Control, a system billed by Ford as operating "like cruise control for off-road driving." In this application, it manages the truck to a set speed over rough ground while the driver focuses on navigating obstacles and looser terrain types. Tremor-equipped Mavericks also get unique springs and shocks on all four corners, plus a one inch lift. The package is completed by a heavy duty transmission cooler and upgraded half-shafts. Some unique design elements, like the unique grille and orange accented tow hooks, are standard to all Maverick Tremors. Others, like the black graphics, are part of an appearance package available at an additional price.

Ford says the Tremor package will come in at an MSRP of $2,995 on both Maverick variants. Add $1,495 to that if you want the additional appearance package. Orders for both open in September.
