Lexington Catholic’s Katherine Truitt (11) celebrates scoring a goal during the first round of the state soccer tournament against Highlands.

Lexington Catholic’s Katherine Truitt is Lexington’s girls’ soccer player of the year as voted on by the city’s nine coaches in ballots gathered by the Herald-Leader for the 2022 All-City Girls’ Soccer Team.

Truitt, a senior midfielder committed to Kentucky, has been a two-time 11th Region player of the year and a co-11th Region player of the year but this is her first top honor on the all-city team. She has scored 20 goals with 12 assists for the No. 2 Knights this season as they won their fourth consecutive 11th Region championship.

A two-sport standout, Truitt was the second highest vote getter as a first-team all-city basketball player last season. Truitt garnered six of the possible eight soccer player of the year votes from the city’s coaches with the other two going to teammate Mary Martin Hampton, LexCath’s leading scorer with 37 goals. Coaches do not vote for their own players. Olivia Bretz helped LexCath sweep the top three first-team positions.

Frederick Douglass and Lafayette each had two first-teamers, the Broncos’ Haley Flynn and Maddi Merryweather and the Generals’ Piper Schweder and Lily Simpson. Sayre’s Katherine Monohan, Lexington Christian’s Marin Wills, Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Amber Brandon and Henry Clay’s Addison Kenny rounded out the first team.

Here are Lexington’s 2022 All-City Girls’ Soccer Teams. Players were nominated and voted on by the city’s coaches, who ranked their first- and second-team choices with 22 points allotted to their player of the year, 21 to the next player, etc.
