FBI joins search for mother of boy found abandoned in Florida

The FBI has joined the search for a missing mother, whose son was found wandering alone in a Florida parking lot nearly two weeks ago.

Leila Cavett has not been heard from since 2-year-old Kamdyn Cavett was found lost and barefoot on July 26 in Miramar. He was wearing only a t-shirt and soiled diaper at the time.

The 21-year-old mother, who lives in Atlanta, Ga., was last seen alive a day earlier driving a white Chevy 3500, with a red tailgate and a ‘Baby on Board’ sign in the passenger window.

Authorities discovered the vehicle abandoned in a Walmart parking a few days later on July 28.

Her family has said she has no ties in Florida, so it’s unclear why she was in the area. After 10 days of searching, they have begun to suspect foul play in Cavett’s death.

“We’re still looking, we have posters printed off,” her sister, Tyuania Cavett, told CBS Miami.

“We have people down there who are trying to get search parties together and even people in Georgia that are still looking out.”

Cavett’s father, Curtis Cavett, who has journeyed to Florida to help with the search, said he suspects his daughter was traveling to meet a man she’d connected with online.

“It was on her Facebook,” he told the news station.
