Burger King debuts ‘ridiculous’ new social distancing method: ‘Reinforce the rules’

Updated

A select group of Burger King customers now have a safe new way to enjoy their Whoppers — and make a fashion statement in the process.

It’s all thanks to the chain’s all-new “social distance crowns,” which are designed to help in-store customers stay six feet apart from one another.

Currently available at Burger King’s locations in Germany, the free “crowns” are essentially just gigantic paper hats.

A company representative told Business Insider that the hats were a “fun and playful” way to remind guests of the social distancing standards that the chain hopes to continue enforcing in Germany, where it has more than 700 restaurants.

“We wanted to reinforce the rules of high safety and hygiene standards that the BK restaurants are following,” the added.

It’s not yet clear what customers think of the crowns, but social media users from around the world weighed in with their own thoughts. Some called the idea “silly” and “ridiculous” while others praised them as a feat of “German engineering.”

“Whatever works!! Love it!” one commenter wrote.

“I would feel much more comfortable returning to work if I had one of these,” another joked.

“It will not work if they’re not of the same height,” another pointed out.

Burger King is just the latest restaurant to enforce social distancing with a humorous, in-restaurant stunt. In early May, a German café went viral after claiming it would use pool noodles to keep its customers apart — sharing an outlandish photo that turned out to be a joke.

A few weeks later, a bar in Maryland shared videos of its social distancing “tables,” which were essentially giant inner tubes. Those protections, the bar emphasized, were actually going to be implemented once it was able to reopen.
