Family makes shocking discovery in discarded trash bags: 'It's exceptional'

The next time you come across a bag of trash in the road, you might want to double-check what it actually is.

When the Virginia-based Schantz family came across two bags of what appeared to be garbage, they quickly discovered that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Inside the bags was nearly $1 million in cash, according to WTVR.

“Inside of the bag, there were plastic baggies and they were addressed with something that said ‘cash vault,'” Emily Schantz told the network.

Upon realizing what they had stumbled upon, the Schantz family called the local authorities and turned in the money.

“For someone so honest and willing to give that almost a million dollars back, it’s exceptional on their part,” Maj. Scott Moser told WTVR. “We are proud and they represented this county well by being so honest.”

Moser believes that the money was en route to a bank via the postal service. How it ended up on the side of the road, however, remains a mystery.
