Papa John’s customers divided over ‘blasphemous’ new menu item: ‘You don’t want to eat this?’

Papa John’s is sparking a social media debate with its latest item — largely thanks to the inclusion of one crucial ingredient.

The new product, released exclusively at Papa John’s locations in the U.K., is called the “All Day Breakfast Pizza.” Available for delivery from May 7 to 11, it features many of the staples found in a traditional English breakfast — including bacon, sausage, mushrooms, potatoes and, notably, baked beans.

That last item, which is a common staple of a “full English” breakfast, seemed to divide social users, some of whom felt that baked beans didn’t belong on a pizza at any time of day.

“What are you doing? It all sounds lovely apart from the beans. Even on a fry up, ensuring appropriate bean separation is crucial to avoid a soggy breakfast. Bin the beans,” one Twitter user wrote.

“If I could have it without the beans,” another user added.

Meanwhile, other Twitter users fully embraced the idea, even pressing Papa John’s to make the item more widely available.

“PLEASE make a vegan version of this!!! I’d buy hundreds!!!!” one user begged.

“One criticism: this pizza does not appear to be available in XXL. This is, of course, the greatest travesty of our age!” another user joked.

Papa John’s, for its part, seemed to take all of the comments in stride, responding to customers’ criticisms and praise. The fast food chain even managed to get in a few jokes, including with Twitter users who claimed the pizza wasn’t “full English” enough.

“Full English with no egg? Blasphemy,” one user tweeted.

“You don’t want to eat this? You must be yolking!” the company joked back, before suggesting that it might consider adding eggs in the future.

The limited-edition item comes amid a string of conversation-starting pizzas from other delivery brands. In April, Domino’s Japan divided customers with a tapioca pearl (or “Boba”) pizza.

In March, Pizza Hut and Ikea collaborated on a pizza topped with the retailer’s famous Swedish meatballs, in addition to a pizza-inspired table.
