Charli D'Amelio fans are petitioning to remove Perez Hilton from TikTok — here’s why

Since the beginning of time — or at least, since the beginning of the internet — Perez Hilton has been causing drama. He’s gotten into it with A-listers like Miley Cyrus, Angelina Jolie and Lady Gaga — and now, he’s beefing with the biggest TikTok star known to man: Charli D’Amelio.

In order to truly understand why Charli’s fans are trying to get Perez removed from the platform, it’s important to know the full timeline of events.

The Charli/Perez feud started on March 3, when Perez commented on one of Charli’s TikToks.

In the TikTok, the social media star dances to a remix of the song “Sugar” by Brockhampton wearing only a bikini. (She is on the beach, so there is nothing inherently wrong with this.)

Perez has quite a few thoughts about Charli’s attire and actions, though, and he wasn’t afraid to say it.

“Anyone else think it’s inappropriate for a 15 year old to dance to this??” he commented, to which Charli responded, “I’m sorry I’m just trying to have fun!”

Though Charli seemed forgiving enough, her fans were far from it.

“No matter who you are, attempting to diss a minor for what they’re wearing is not right,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Imagine coming after a 15 year old trying to have fun,” another wrote in response to Perez’s comment on TikTok.

“I didn’t come after her,” he replied. “I questioned her parents’ decisions.”

On March 4, one day after the initial exchange went down, Charli took to Twitter to address what happened.

“i will continue to post when i feel happy and confident so if me wearing a swimsuit at the beach is a problem well sucks to suck doesn’t it,” she said in defense of her actions.

Well, Perez being Perez, just couldn’t let this go. The next day on March 5, Dexerto notes that he addressed the feud directly in a live stream and once again criticized Charli’s parents for their lack of parenting.

“These people still are letting me have it over me asking a question on the biggest TikToker of the moment’s account when she did a video earlier this week gyrating, moving in an adult way to a song about taking big D!” he said. “All I asked was, is it appropriate of her to be doing this? My main issue was with her parents, not her!”

On March 7, Perez took things even further by creating a YouTube video titled “EXPOSED! Charli D’Amelio’s Father And His Disgusting Past! Arrested And…”

“I KNEW I was right about Charli D’Amelio’s dad! Not only was the TikTok superstar’s father arrested for driving drunk, but he had his then 9 year old daughter in the car with him!!! This explains so much!!!” the description for the video reads.

“I think Charli is a sweet girl and talented, my real issue is with her parents,” he said in the video. “Why’d the dad and the mom leave that video up? I would’ve made my daughter take it down.”

Perez then goes on to reveal that Charli’s father was “arrested for drunk driving,” as if that has anything to do with Charli dancing in a bikini.

Perez’s so-called “tea” is very public information. While running for state Senate in 2018, Charli’s dad noted that he took responsibility for what had transpired, according to The Hour.

After he was done going after Charli’s father, Perez decided to go after her and her ex-boyfriend Chase Hudson.

On April 1, he posted a video to TikTok claiming that Chase “cheated on Charli” and “even sent nudes.” (Rumors have circulated about Chase’s infidelity, but neither Charli nor Chase have commented on the matter.)

At this point, Charli’s fans had had enough.

“Leave them alone this isn’t any of ur business anyway,” one person commented.

“Everybody’s business is my business!” Perez responded.

It didn’t take long for Charli stans to finally snap. On April 21, one fan created a petition on change.org calling to “ban Perez Hilton from TikTok.”

“Perez Hilton is SCARY. Plain and simple. He is currently 42 years old, and attacks young teenagers (15 years old) for wearing BATHING SUITS,” the petition reads. “He is problematic and spreads negativity on the app, TikTok. His whole career is based [on] creating drama — which is something we seriously don’t need right now.”

As of April 30, the petition has more than 91,000 signatures — but Perez doesn’t seem to care. On April 29, he made a TikTok thanking the creator of the petition, as he claims it has helped him grow his social media following.

“This petition has been so good for me!!” he wrote. “THANK YOU! Sincerely! Deeply!”

Perez has even seemingly programmed a Twitter bot to respond to any tweets about signing the petition with a ‘thank you.’

As for the comments that started it all, Perez also has no regrets.

In a video posted on April 30 explaining the origin of the feud with Charli, Perez said, “I stand behind what I said in that original video!”

In a statement provided to Insider, Perez said that he welcomes any and all attention.

“Drama is my business and it’s been good for business,” he said. “I invite everyone to look at my videos on TikTok and leave me as much hate as they want. I genuinely love all attention — positive or negative. And a hateful comment is still a view and also helps with engagement! It’s crazy to think I’ve been doing what I do for 16 years now. I think I know how things work and how to play the game.”
