Quality air purifiers have historically cost an arm and a leg, with some of the most popular and trusted options retailing for up to $800. Studies have proven that these devices can serve as remedies for easier and healthier breathing practices, especially for those who live with pets or in cities with high air pollution levels.

The truth of the matter is, the average consumer likely doesn’t have hundreds of dollars to shell out for one of these gadgets. However, this under-$100 option from Sharper Image has seemingly beaten those odds, with shoppers gushing that it’s pretty “excellent.”

Retailing for $69.99, this air purifier is not like others on the market. In addition to being much more compact and space-consolidating than more expensive options like the Molekule Air, this product does much more than its expected function — and it does so with the help of something as easily accessible as water.

According to its product description, the Sharper Image Lighted Water Air Purifier and Freshener “cleans, humidifies and deodorizes the air in rooms up to 200 sq. ft.”

Here’s how it works: While air goes into the water tank, dust, pollen, odors and any other impurities are trapped in the water, allowing for cleaner air to be emitted. Also, it helps that cleaning the device is a piece of cake: simply change the water.

In addition to its standard performance features, the gadget boasts a few additional perks that shoppers love. Among them are a blue nightlight, an adjustable speed fan that creates a “calming white noise” and a safety switch which automatically turns the motor off when the lid is lifted. The device also comes with lavender-scented oil if shoppers would like to use it for aromatherapy purposes.

Boasting an overall customer rating of 4.7 stars and a 96 percent recommendation rate, this product is a clear fan favorite. Shoppers have particularly been raving about how easy it is to both use and clean.

“I like it because you use water,” one shopper wrote. “It’s easy to clean… I have asthma … It helps me breathe.”

A second shopper who gave the product a five-star rating added that she bought this “excellent air purifier and freshener” for her grandson “who has allergy rhinitis.”

“He can breathe easier now,” she added before listing that the product is “attractive, compact, lightweight,” has “simple controls” and does not require a filter.

Another satisfied shopper even admitted to buying the product more than once as she “could not find anything comparable in any price range.”

Since we know it’s a bit of a struggle finding air purifiers that are reasonably priced and multifunctional, we’ve listed a few more options for you below, just in case the above device doesn’t fit your needs — and they all cost under $90! Take a look:
