The incredible story behind celeb hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons' intro to the Kardashians

Andrew Fitzsimons’ status as the Kardashian-Jenner family’s go-to hairstylist sort of just happened.

The Irish-born hair guru was finishing up a job with an unnamed fashion photographer in New York City when he was asked if he could stick around help out on a test shoot with a young model. Fitzsimons, who said he’d “do anything to work with this guy,” agreed to do the last-minute gig, not knowing who the model was going to be.

Next thing he knew, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star, Kendall Jenner, walked through the door for “her first test shoot in New York as a model.”

“We did a whole, I think it was a denim shoot together. She was amazing. She was great. And then she started booking me for all of her New York,” Fitzsimons recalled during a recent interview with In The Know’s Gibson Johns. “She was living in L.A. at the time and coming to New York for each season, and I started working with her on all of her carpets that she would do in New York and then the Met Gala.”

While Kendall had gone to the 2014 Met Gala, the event’s 2015 edition served as a big fashion statement for the young model — and proved to be one of Fitzsimons’ most career-making moments.

“I really think the Met Gala with Kendall — it was the year that she wore the green Calvin Klein dress — it really felt like where she kind of debuted as not only as a celebrity, but also, a supermodel,” he said. “And that was another level. I feel like I never had a big break, but there’s lots of little breaks.”

“That kind of transformed my career into a different that moment, transformed my career into a different avenue, and that’s where I started taking things really, really seriously when it came to the celebrity world,” Fitzsimons added.

From there, Kendall recommended his work to her older sister, Kourtney, during her visits to New York City. Before he knew it, he was working as a celeb hairstylist “with every single member of the family.”
