At nearly 80 years old, Coach is one of those classic American brands that never goes out of style.

My first designer purse was a small, black Coach shoulder bag — the kind that was super popular in the ’90s and early ’00s — with the signature Coach print. In the sixth grade, my best friend and I each begged our parents for a Coach purse and got the same one so that we could match. We never felt cooler.

That was over 15 years ago. Since then, Coach has evolved into a more edgy, playful and luxurious brand. Executive Creative Director Stuart Vevers, who previously worked for Calvin Klein, Mulberry, Louis Vuitton and Loewe, joined the brand in 2013 and started designing with a modern twist.

He once told Vogue that he wanted to keep “the essential American-ness of the label.” However, he added, “I like anything that feels young,” and with “a little bad behavior, rebelliousness.”

In recent years, celebrities like Selena Gomez and Michael B. Jordan have been brand ambassadors for Coach — and Jennifer Lopez is the current face of the brand.
