Dogs bring joy! That’s probably why it took less than a month for the Instagram account @dogsworkingfromhome to amass more than 80,000 followers, and why pet adoptions and fosters are on the rise in recent weeks.

While dogs enjoy simple pleasures like endless petting and cuddles, you can show your own furry friend even more love by giving them something to play with and snack on (not to mention, keep them occupied while you’re on a video call or trying to get some work done at home).

BarkBox is a monthly subscription-based box filled with treats and toys for dogs. Each box includes two toys, two bags of treats and one chew tailored to your pup’s preferences and curated around cheeky monthly themes like Chewrassic Park, Hairy Metal and Throwbark Thursday.

To get started with your own BarkBox, you’ll first answer a few questions about your dog, including their name, breed, size, birthday and eating preferences (do they like chicken or not?).

Next, you’ll choose your subscription plan — the longer you commit, the cheaper the box. Choose from a monthly subscription for $29 where you can cancel anytime, a six-month subscription for $25 per box or a 12-month subscription for $22 per box. Nonetheless, each plan is billed monthly and comes with free shipping.

You may have heard of BarkBox or seen them on social media, particularly in November 2019 when one toy from the Thankstuffing BarkBox went viral for looking, well, somewhat naughty.

The Big Honkin’ Pigs in a Blanket toy was created to look like a classic cocktail wiener decorated with a pig snout on one end and a pig butt with a curly tail on the other. After being posted on Facebook by the brand, however, some social media users couldn’t help but notice that part of the dog toy resembled a NSFW adult-entertainment toy (you can use your imagination on this one).

Funny enough, the toy became a best-seller and even sold out during a February restock on the brand’s site BarkShop, which sells toys and treats à la carte.

April’s theme is Night at the Squeakeasy (pictured above) and on the brand’s website, you can take a peak inside to see exactly what you and your pup would be getting. The theme parodies a classic speakeasy from the 1920s and includes toys like The Great Catsby and a Mutthatten plush cocktail toy that comes with a detachable “cherry” ball and treats like The Roaring Turkeys. It’s all too cute!

While there aren't any other subscription services like BarkBox, with punny toys and treats centered around a theme and for under $30, you can purchase other pet products online at sites like Chewy, Petco, PetSmart, and find subscription-based boxes from PupJoy, Dapper Dog, Bullymake and Kong Box.
