John Krasinski and Lin-Manuel Miranda surprise ‘Hamilton’ superfan with Zoom performance

The film premiere of “In The Heights” has been postponed and “Hamilton” performances are canceled for the time being, but Lin-Manuel Miranda has found a way to keep fans entertained in the interim.

On April 5, the maestro joined John Krasinski on the second episode of his new YouTube series, “Some Good News,” to surprise a little girl who was supposed to see Hamilton for her birthday.

“We were supposed to see Hamilton in Jacksonville tonight—[Aubrey’s] 9th bday present,” Aubrey’s mom tweeted at Miranda. “Seeing Hamilton has been her dream since she saw her 1st Broadway show last year, but we’re home watching Mary Poppins Returns instead. At least we’re safe and healthy.”

After seeing this tweet, Krasinski invited Aubrey onto his show and surprised her with a trip to New York to see “Hamilton” on broadway.

“I have a deal for you. When it’s all over, I will fly you and your mom to New York and you will see ‘Hamilton’ on Broadway. How does that sound?” Krasinski asked Aubrey. The 9-year-old was so shocked that she said nothing in response.

However, that’s not all that Krasinski had in store for Aubrey. The “Jack Ryan” star knew that the girl was “a bigger fan of [his] wife” — “Mary Poppins” star Emily Blunt — and so he invited her onto the show to say hello.

And the surprises still didn’t end there. While Blunt and Krasinski were having a conversation about “Mary Poppins,” Lin-Manuel Miranda joined the chat.

“Hi Aubrey, how are you? I’m sorry you didn’t get to see ‘Hamilton.’ I’m so glad to meet you,” Miranda said. Once again, Aubrey was speechless.

Thankfully, Aubrey didn’t have to do much talking. Within minutes, the majority of the original cast of “Hamilton” was on the call performing the song “Alexander Hamilton.”

“That’s my favorite song from ‘Hamilton,” Aubrey said when she heard the beginnings of “Alexander Hamilton” playing.

Some of the familiar faces who joined the chat included Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr., Renée Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo and Anthony Ramos, who also stars in the movie adaptation of “In The Heights.”

“Hamilton” fans and John Krasinski fans alike took to the comments to express their appreciation for this act of kindness.

“John Krasinski is a gem of a human being and the world doesn’t deserve him,” one user wrote on YouTube. “I cried as soon as the hamilton cast started singing,” another person said.

A private and personal performance from the original cast of “Hamilton” beats a night at the theater any day.
