This black cat is a fashionista taking Instagram by storm

Rover is a bit of a big deal on Instagram. With almost 50,000 followers, the small black cat is best known for his trendy fashion sense.

Watch the below Instagram clip as Rover struts his stuff while sporting blond curls and a gold chain. The black kitty doesn’t need a catwalk — his living room is the runway as LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” blares in the background.

In a separate post, Rover’s human jokingly captioned a photo of the cat, “When you haven’t been to the salon in weeks because of the quarantine.”

As Instagram and influencer pets rise in popularity (pour one out for the late, great Grumpy Cat), Rover’s success is particularly notable. Black cats tend to be passed over for photoshoots — and even for adoption — because owners believe they don’t photograph as well as lighter pets.

“It’s become more serious now because people live their life on selfies,” Christine Baykad, who runs a shelter in England, explained to the BBC. “Black cats are now less popular because they don’t show up well in pictures. When people ring me in the kitten season, they will say, ‘Any color except black.'”

Baykad added that owners have also rejected cats with round faces for ones with pointed noses.

“People want designer kittens,” she said. “They put an order in now. I find it baffling.”

Because black cats have long faced stigmatization, Baykad said that adoptions of black cats have been the lowest in two decades. Rover, however, seems to dispel the idea that black cats don’t photograph well with every Instagram post.
