Meet the Instagram-famous pug with a super rare pigmentation

Milkshake the pug isn’t your average dog — and not just because he’s Instagram-famous.

As you can tell from his photos, Milkshake has pretty pink fur and piercing blue eyes. The London-based pup’s coloring is caused by a lack of pigmentation, which he inherited from an albino pug in his lineage.

“I had never even heard of pink pugs before, but when I went to the breeder and spotted Milkshake I thought he was adorable, and knew I had to have him,” Milkshake’s owner Maria told Unilad.

When Maria picked out the then 10-week-old Milkshake, she says that he was one of only “30 [pink pugs] in the world.” Now, more than a year later, she estimates that there are “no more than 100 worldwide.”

Though albinism in animals often comes with its fair share of health issues, Maria says that Milkshake is perfectly happy and healthy.

“He’s not actually albino — he just has the colouring [sic] so he doesn’t suffer from any sight loss or hearing loss,” she explained.

At just 17 months old, Milkshake already has quite the social media following. The pink pug has more than 60,000 followers on Instagram, all of whom love keeping up with his crazy outfits and antics.

Evidently, Milkshake doesn’t mind the photoshoots or attention.

“He enjoys getting dressed up and posing for all his photoshoots because he knows he’s guaranteed to get some chicken after,” Maria told the Daily Mail. “When I do a shoot with him when we’re out and about, people will come over and take their own pictures and give him a cuddle. He loves it.”
