ESPN’s 10-part Michael Jordan documentary is coming out early — watch the new trailer

Homebound sports fans finally have something to look forward to.

ESPN has announced that its long-anticipated documentary, “The Last Dance,” is coming to TV screens months ahead of schedule.

The 10-part series, which chronicles Michael Jordan and the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls as they attempt to capture their sixth NBA title of the decade, will now debut on April 19, according to ESPN.

Featuring previously unreleased interviews and behind the scenes footage, “The Last Dance” promises an in-depth, wide-spanning look at Jordan’s final season with the team. ESPN’s announcement also came with a brand new trailer for the documentary.

The series will air over the course of five weeks, with two new episodes being released each Sunday. The final two parts will premiere on ESPN on Sunday, May 17.

ESPN released a statement explaining the new date, telling its viewers that the move was a direct response to the current global crisis, which has led to the suspension of every major sports league in the U.S.

“As society navigates this time without live sports, viewers are still looking to the sports world to escape and enjoy a collective experience,” ESPN said in a statement. “We’ve heard the calls from fans asking us to move up the release date for this series, and we’re happy to announce that we’ve been able to accelerate the production schedule to do just that.”

Changing release dates to cope with the current situation is nothing new for Disney, which owns ESPN. The company also recently announced that it would be offering several new films, including “Onward” and “Frozen 2,” on Disney Plus at an earlier date than expected.
