This affordable brand will help you 'press reset' on your skincare routine

Updated

With the constant wear and tear of experimenting with different skincare products and the natural stressors of everyday life, our skin can take quite the beating. With this in mind, it’s wise to press reset every once in a while, and this simple philosophy is the ethos for the small-but-powerful skincare brand Krave Beauty.

Founded by beauty influencer and YouTuber Liah Yoo, Krave Beauty was started with the mindset of returning to the days “when skincare was a fun way to practice self-care… When skincare was simple.”

“We’re here to #PressReset on your skincare routine,” the brand’s website outlines.

Running with this motif of simplicity and renewal, the brand boasts a compact range of five products — one for each designated stage of a standard skincare routine: cleanser, toner/exfoliant, serum/treatment, moisturizer and SPF.

Take a look at the full range of products below that have received the stamp of approval from Gen Z and millennial skincare lovers and even estheticians, below:

Cleanser

Shop: Krave Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser, $16

With Krave’s Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser serving as my personal go-to cleanser for over two years now, I can firmly stress that this product’s formula is unlike any other.

Made of matcha, hemp seed oil and vitamin B5, this cleanser is perfect for those who want a deep clean without compromising or stripping their skin’s moisture barrier. “Hydrating” is the most fitting word that can be used to describe this product’s formula as it leaves the skin soft and supple and ready for the next product’s application — Not to mention it’s only $16!

Toner/Chemical Exfoliator

Shop: Krave Kale-Lalu-yAHA, $25

The next step in most people’s routines is usually toning and exfoliating.

While most estheticians recommend chemical exfoliants over physical — as the latter is said to cause micro-tears in the skin, creating wrinkles over time — these tend to be overpowering for some skin types and can cause varying levels of irritation.

Krave Beauty’s Kale-Lalu-yAHA — get it? “AHA” as in alpha-hydroxy acids? — is literally made with energy-boosting ingredients and leafy greens like kale, spinach, parsley and sugar-cane derived glycolic acid to promote slow cellular turnover. As with any exfoliator, this should only be used a few times a week.

Serum/Treatment

Shop: Krave Great Barrier Relief, $28

Though tying with the next product as the brand’s priciest item, this $28 “skin-soothing serum” is perfect for those moments when your skin is inflamed and is in need of a hug.

Ringing true to the brand’s mission, this nourishing formula “offers irritation skin a reset button” with its unique formulation of ingredients. It is made with skin-regenerative tamanu oil and plant-based safflower and rosehip seed oil as well as ceramides and squalane to calm the skin down after its barrier has been compromised.

Sweetening the deal, with every purchase of this product, donations will be made to help protect the Great Barrier Reef, which houses the world’s largest coral reef system.

Moisturizer

Shop: Krave Oat So Simple Water Cream, $28

Introducing Krave Beauty’s latest release and the next step in your skincare sequence: moisturizer.

This cream’s function is in the name: “so simple.” The Oat So Simple Water Cream is described as a “no-frills” moisturizer that’s created with less than 10 ingredients, making it the perfect way to feed your skin without any worries of irritation — just “some good old-fashion hydration.”

Oats are listed as the main ingredient in this product as it is said to “invite your skin into a state of ZEN.”

Sunscreen

Shop: Krave The Beet Shield SPF 50+ PA++++, $20

Last but never least on the roster is sunscreen. No matter the season, your complexion or age, SPF is a necessary component to your skincare routine and this option from Krave Beauty is, in my opinion, the leader of the pack.

Many people’s love-hate relationship with sunscreen comes with the white or gray cast it leaves on most skin tones — especially folks with deeper complexions. Krave’s Beet Shield is formulated in a liquidy texture that applies to the skin like a light moisturizer, leaving no white cast at all! — and coming from someone with deeply melanated skin, this is a pretty big deal.

Formulated with beetroot extract, allantoin and vitamin C, The Beet Shield is described as “a lightweight, non-white cast leaving formula” that “fights against the free radicals so you don’t turn beet-red.”

What the professionals say about Krave Beauty

I’m probably the last person to review @kravebeauty’s Oat So Simple Water Cream, but i wanted to share my thoughts on it today. @liahyoo created this moisturizer to be a no frills, super simple moisturizer that could fit into anyone’s skincare routine. as the label suggests, the ingredients list is incredibly simple with only 10 ingredients. the main ingredients being Oat extract and squalane, both known for their soothing and and calming qualities. ⁣ ⁣ When I first saw the launch of this moisturizer I honestly was not impressed. I love my moisturizers to be packed with powerful ingredients like omega fatty acids, ceramides, and other skin barrier strengthening ingredients. Liah stated that she created this so that it’s able to be customizable for everyone by mixing in your own oils, treatments, and boosters into the cream. considering how simple the ingredients list is, I did find $28 (not including shipping) to be quite up there for such a simple product that I have to mix other things in it to make it work for me. although, you do get 2.7 ounces of product which is much more than you receive in a traditional moisturizer. ⁣ ⁣ With that said, I have found a sweet spot in my routine for this water cream. I use many different actives in my routine including AHAs, BHAs, Retinol, and Azelaic Acid. Sometimes you just need a simple moisturizer that you know won’t effect the other treatments you’ve applied. I use this as a base to mix in my Azelaic Acid & treatments oils and it works fantastically. If you have super sensitive and reactive skin, rosacea, or acne prone skin — this is perfect for you. for people who are used to more advanced formulas, you might find that it’s not quite enough for you. But, sometimes it’s good to keep simple and this moisturizer checks that box.

I’ve had my eye on the @kravebeauty’s Matcha Hemp Cleanser & Kale-Lalu-yaha for quite some time now so I was super excited to finally be able to try them. What I love about Krave Beauty is that every product they create is made with the intention to protect and nourish the skin. my experience is that the formulas are super gentle but are effective. ⁣ ⁣ Match Hemp Hydrating Cleanser: This cleanser is a dream. at this point i feel like i’m a cleanser connoisseur. I’ve tried so many over the years and this on is definitely in my top 5. super gentle, doesn’t strip or dehydrate my skin barrier, no weird smell and lathers beautifully. the key ingredients are match (obvi), which is rich in antioxidants, hemp-seed oil which is high in amino acids, vitamin b5 & sodium PCA, two very hydrating and nourishing ingredients. all which are great for strengthening the skin barrier. one thing i will say about this cleanser is that when it gets in your mouth, girl 🤢 — otherwise, I love it lol ($16 USD) ⁣ ⁣ Kale-lalu-yAHA: This is a glycolic based exfoliating toner. it’s has 5.25 % of glycolic acid and a pH of 3.0-4.0. Glycolic is one of my favorite acids and chemical exfoliants but, it’s notorious for l sometimes being irritating to the skin. Glycolic has a smaller molecular size than lactic and mandelic acid so, it penetrates the skin deeper, and quicker. This formulation isn’t irritating at all. it’s so gentle on the skin but you can still feel it working. when you apply it you’ll get that chemical exfoliant sting or tingle but it won’t leave any irritation behind. along w/ the glycolic acid its key ingredients include: kale, spinach and parsley, all antioxidant rich ingredients full of vital minerals and vitamins. the formula also includes aloe, hyaluronic acid, vitamin b5 and, allantoin. all very hydrating and soothing ingredients which create a buffer to the glycolic acid. ($25)
