Dramatic security footage shows store manager nearly blinding thief

Updated

A convenience store security camera captured the dramatic moment a shopkeeper threw chili powder into a thief’s face, sending him running out of the store.

The masked robber had targeted the shop in Kingstanding, Birmingham right before it closed at 10:30 p.m.

The offender was dressed head-to-toe in black, covering his face and brandishing a large knife as he demanded the manager hand over all the cash in the register.

But the plan was foiled when the manager instead reached under the counter and then tossed a handful of chili powder right at the criminal. Stunned, the robber stumbles backward, engulfed in an orange cloud, before sprinting out of the store.

In some cases, chili powder can temporarily blind a person and requires several eye washes to properly get it all out. It burns but is not life-threatening.

The store owner, who threw the chili powder, released the footage to showcase the crime and his punishment, but reportedly never went to the police over the matter.
