Man gets jail time following incident at Walmart: 'Those who think this is a joke — it is not'

Updated

A 24-year-old man in Texas was sentenced on March 4 to 30 days in jail after posting a video on social media last August where he licked a tub of ice cream in a supermarket and then put it back in the freezer.

D’Adrien Anderson was charged with criminal mischief over the incident. According to reports, Anderson made the video so he would go viral and actually ended up buying the ice cream he licked.

Both Walmart’s security cameras, as well as his receipt, prove that he did take it back out of the freezer once he was done filming.

Despite this, however, Walmart still had to restock all of the Blue Bell Creameries products in the freezer because of the video. In addition to jail time, Anderson will also have to pay a $1,000 fine and $1,565 in restitution to Blue Bell Creameries.

While Anderson’s video had been taken down, Fox4 tweeted out a screenshot from the original post, which shows Anderson licking the ice cream.

Anderson began his jail term immediately after sentencing.

Walmart released the following statement back in August about the incident: “If food is tampered with, or a customer wants to leave the impression that they left behind adulterated product, we will move quickly with law enforcement to identify, apprehend and prosecute those who think this is a joke — it is not.”
