Christian Siriano explains his wild SweeTARTS-inspired NYFW look (Exclusive)

Updated

Christian Siriano recently unveiled one of his most unique looks yet.

The in-demand fashion designer partnered with SweeTARTS to create a one-of-a-kind look inspired by the iconic candy brand, resulting in an eye-catching ensemble complete with fringe, three pastel colors and two opposing sides to reflect that the woman wearing the look can "be both."

"This idea of 'be both' to celebrate somebody that is maybe is masculine and feminine or powerful and soft," he said of the design. "I mean, there are those people out there and that's always been in my work."

Indeed, some of Siriano's most memorable looks -- think Billy Porter at this year's Oscars in a tuxedo dress or Michael Urie being his own prom date to the Met Gala in May -- challenge the common conception of what men and women are supposed to wear, pushing back against societal norms on the world's biggest red carpet events.

For his SweeTARTS concoction, the former "Project Runway" winner used the brand's colorful and wide-ranging line of sweet treats as direct inspiration to convey that idea.

"I wanted to have this idea of something that was almost soft-but-strong on one side, which of kind of more like the classic SweeTART candy, but then this rope candy is still kind of whimsical and playful and fun," Siriano explained his decision to use fringe exclusively to AOL at an unveiling event for the look. "It's kind of like silly string in a way, so I like that feeling."

At the big reveal, Christian Siriano also teased that an unnamed celebrity will be wearing the colorful creation at his upcoming New York Fashion Week show.
