Elizabeth Taylor is an icon in every sense of the word.

The British-American actress is a five-time Oscar nominee and two-time winner, who defined glamour from a very early start.

Her first Academy Award nomination came in 1957 for her work in "Raintree County" and she eventually won the Best Actress Oscar for her iconic role in "BUtterfield 8" in 1961. She accepted the award in an incredible Christian Dior gown and a bold red lip.

In 1970, Taylor presented the award for Best Picture in a lavender Edith Head dress and the Taylor-Burton diamond necklace. Today she is remembered for having one of the most expensive private collections of jewelry in the world

Taylor made the red AIDS ribbon her signature at the 1992 Oscars, where she wore it pinned on to her white Valentino gown alongside her "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" co-star Paul Newman. One year later, she received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her pioneering AIDS activism and accepted the honorary Oscar in a stunning yellow Valentino.
