Marine wanted in fatal shooting of mother’s boyfriend

A 22-year-old Marine who deserted his post remains at large after being named a person of interest in the fatal shooting of his mother's boyfriend.

Michael Brown is wanted for questioning in connection with Saturday’s shooting of 54-year-old Rodney Brown, according to authorities. The combat engineer left his North Carolina post at Camp Lejeune last month and was recently spotted in Virginia’s Franklin County, where the shooting took place.

“When I heard there’d been a shooting, didn’t even think about Rodney, because I’ve known Rodney,” neighbor Kenneth Meador told TV station WFXR. "He grew up here, I did too. We were friends, neighbors. Rodney was a super nice guy. He was really polite, worked hard. Just a great guy.”

Investigators believe Michael Brown may now be in North Carolina. His last known address is Craven Street in New Bern.

Brown “is believed to be armed with a high-powered rifle and may have access to other weapons,” authorities told ABC News.

He is 6-foot tall and weighs about 145 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes, according to authorities. Investigators originally believed he was driving a 1976 white Cadillac with no registered plates, but cops now think he may be operating a black 2008 Lincoln Town Car.
