NM woman playing 'Pokémon Go' with boyfriend shot dead

A search was underway in New Mexico Tuesday morning for those involved in the fatal shooting of an Albuquerque woman, who was killed after she accidentally stumbled onto a robbery in progress while playing "Pokémon Go" with her boyfriend.

Cayla Campos and her boyfriend, who authorities identified by his first name, Sidney, were driving near Bianchetti Park late Friday night when they spotted two armed robbers targeting an unidentified party in a vehicle nearby, KRQE reported.

Police said when Campos attempted to flee the scene, the robbers fired several rounds into her car, striking the 21-year-old in the neck. Her vehicle crashed into a nearby house and Campos was taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

There have been no arrests in connection with the case.

The Albuquerque Police Department on Monday called on the community to come forward with any details they may have in the case.

"The two vehicles involved were a red car (possibly a Ford Mustang) and a silver four door sedan," authorities said in a statement to ABC News.

"APD is asking the victims of the 'robbery' or anyone else with information to please come forward."

Her best friend, Cody Bell, said Campos and her boyfriend weren't far from home when the fatal incident occurred just before midnight and that they were likely just in the wrong place at he wrong time.

"Her and her boyfriend, they always make a loop around this park, playing "Pokémon Go" every night, before they go home because their apartment is literally like right there," Bell told KRQE.

"Just knowing that I'm never going to see her again or talk to her – I'm just sorry that her life was taken away so soon."
