Knife-wielding maniac who killed girlfriend, stabbed her 9-year-old granddaughter, gets 17 years behind bars

A Bronx man who fatally stabbed his live-in girlfriend, then mercilessly turned his knife on her young granddaughter, will spend 17 years behind bars for the gory crime.

Henry Maldonado carved up his 60-year-old girlfriend, Carmen Irizarry, then stabbed her 9-year-old granddaughter, Heaven, five times before torching their Bronx apartment and trying to kill himself on May 11, 2016.

“Please, help me, help me!” little Heaven begged an upstairs neighbor after escaping Maldonado, the neighbor told the Daily News. “Oh, God, he’s going to come up here and get me!”

Heaven survived the knife wounds to her chest, back, armpit and legs. One of Maldonado’s stabs nearly struck her femoral artery, prosecutors said.

“We hope the sentence he received today will help the deceased victim’s family to heal, especially the brave, resilient young girl who survived and recovered from the horrific attack,” Bronx D.A. Darcel Clark said Tuesday.

Officers needed a Taser to subdue Maldonado. Police said after his arrest that he had been fighting with Irizarry over money before going berserk.

Maldonado, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter and attempted murder in January, was sentenced Tuesday.
