Kit Kat is launching its first new permanent US flavor in a decade and it's green

Kit Kat bars are going green.

For the first time in nearly a decade, the chocolate-covered wafer treat will be available in a new year-round flavor. Called Duos Mint + Dark Chocolate, it’ll be a mashup of mint crème on the top and dark chocolate on the bottom, surrounding the classic crispy wafers.

The newbies are set to hit store shelves nationwide in December. Kit Kat’s original milk chocolate flavor launched as Chocolate Crisp in the UK way back in 1935, according to Nestle, which now produces the candy. In 1937, the words “Kit Kat” were added to the packaging.

In 2010, Kit Kat was introduced in Dark chocolate form as a year-round flavor.

Kit Kat already comes in a variety of kooky flavors overseas, with options like Green Tea, Strawberry and Wasabi available in Japan.

The upcoming mint and dark chocolate concoction may be a sign that more fun flavors are coming to the U.S.

“Kit Kat is known around the world for its inventive flavors,” said Christopher Kinnard, a Kit Kat senior brand manager. “Our fans in the U.S. have been requesting new Kit Kat flavors and we’re excited to share we are adding to the Kit Kat Family...But here’s the best part — we are just getting started. Keep your eyes peeled; there is more to come from the Kit Kat brand.”
