Elizabeth Stewart dishes on her Givenchy twinning moment with Julia Roberts

Updated

Calling Elizabeth Stewart a stylist to the stars would be an understatement.

The former WWD and New York Times journalist shifted her career almost 15 years ago to become one of the most in-demand celebrity stylist in the business. Julia Roberts, Viola Davis, Gal Gadot, Sandra Bullock, Jessica Chastain, Cate Blanchett and Amanda Seyfried are just a few of the names that call upon her consecutively.

Elizabeth made headlines the other month when she showed up to the InStyle Awards, totally matching Julia Roberts in head-to-toe lilac Givenchy suit.

"We have a history of 'twinning' moments on Instagram which is how it started. We were both getting awards along with Clare Waight Kelly from Givenchy, so that was a natural choice. Julia thought of the idea…she knew I was nervous about being in the spotlight and intuited a great way to make the night fun for me," Stewart told us on behalf of her latest partnership with Walmart.

From working on editorial shoots to getting her A-list clients ready for their never-ending press tours, we wouldn't be surprised if Elizabeth has mastered how to be in two places at once -- especially with awards season around the corner.

"Styling for an awards carpet can be a long process and I first find out what my clients are thinking and then channel their taste to make it happen. I love to work with designers on custom which requires a lot of advance planning. We always have backups ready for many different reasons, starting with a last minute zipper breaking. For this season, I don’t want to give anything away but I’m really excited about the looks you’ll see," she tells us.

Elizabeth Stewart is responsible for some of the most iconic magazine covers and red carpet moments to date. Julia Roberts' Harper's Bazaar October 2018 cover featured the actress facing her fear of heights, cliff climbing in a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown -- the same fuchsia dress Jennifer Lopez wore to her "Second Act" world premiere.

Another pink moment that caught waves was when Viola Davis stepped out for the 2018 Oscars in a custom Michael Kors Collection sequin gown. The "How To Get Away With Murder" actress instantly soared to the best dressed list. However, when Stewart recalled her favorite red carpet moment she ever got to work on -- it included the chic Cate Blanchett.

"One of my favorite red carpet looks to this day is still the 2011 Oscars where Cate Blanchett wore Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci. I love that dress and look. The lavender contrasted with the chartreuse intricate beading was really interesting and unusual for an award show that looked incredible on her."

Her dream client? "I am lucky enough to already work with my dream clients. If I took on someone else I would love someone who shares my affinity for high-low fashion. Someone who could pull off a Gaultier couture jacket one day and a Time and Tru long blazer and millennium pant the next."
