2 major retailers now offer everyone free 2-day shipping

As online retailers become more competitive, consumers continue to reap the benefits.

Most recently, Target announced it will now offer all shoppers free two-day shipping on eligible orders of $35 or more.

This move makes Target one of two major retailers that now offer free two-day shipping to everyone who meets a low minimum-order threshold.

Target

Previously, Target had offered everyone free shipping on eligible orders of $35 or more. It wasn’t necessarily two-day shipping, though, as it is now.

In addition, if you’re a Target REDcard cardholder, you can get free two-day shipping on eligible items with no minimum purchase necessary.

Walmart

Since early 2017, Walmart has offered everyone free two-day shipping on eligible orders of $35 or more.

Prior to that, the retailer restricted this option to shoppers who paid a membership fee.

Other noteworthy shipping policies

Target and Walmart’s other major big-box store competitor, Kmart, actually offers everyone free shipping with a lower threshold — $25. But it’s not two-day shipping.

Kmart restricts free two-day shipping to members of Shop Your Way Max — an annual membership that costs $39 per year.

Amazon’s shipping policy is similar to that of Kmart in that it offers everyone free shipping on eligible orders of $25 or more — but it’s not two-day shipping. The e-commerce giant states:

“With free shipping, your order will be delivered 5-8 business days after all your items are available to ship, including pre-order items.”

Faster free shipping is restricted to Amazon Prime members. They get free two-day shipping with no minimum order threshold.

A Prime membership costs $99 per year or $12.99 per month. A discounted price of $5.99 per month is now available for folks with EBT or Medicaid cards, as Amazon announced this week.

A Prime Student membership — which is for college students — is $49 per year or $6.49 per month.
