Rose McGowan takes aim at Academy due to Weinstein’s nominations

Rose McGowan is now taking aim at the Academy who awarded Harvey Weinstein with more than 300 nominations over the years.

McGowan, who has accused Weinstein of rape and received a $100,000 settlement from him in 1997 after “an episode in a hotel room,” tweeted the hashtag #OscarsSoRape on Saturday morning in response to an article about how many times Weinstein has been thanked in Oscar acceptance speeches.

The disgraced Hollywood film producer has been thanked at the Academy Awards 34 times — as many times as God and less than only one other person: Steven Spielberg.

Weinstein’s membership to the Academy may be revoked after more than 30 women have accused him of sexual harassment and even rape after an explosive New York Times piece ran last week, followed by a revealing New Yorker story, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The board called WEinstein’s actions in a statement earlier this week, “repugnant, abhorrent, and antithetical to the high standards of the Academy and the creative community it represents.”

Weinstein — through his previous companies Miramax and The Weinstein Company — has taken home 81 Oscars for his various projects.

Some of the stars who have thanked him on the big stage include, Gweyneth Patrlow for her role in “Shakespeare in Love” in 1999. Paltrow was one of several stars who detailed an encounter where Weinstein placed his hands on her and suggested a massage a few years prior in 1995.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon also thanked Weinstein in their acceptance speech for “Good Will Hunting.”

Damon claimed he was unaware of Weinstein’s behavior and Affleck released a vague statement following the accusations before past accusations of sexual harassment against the “Batman” star came to light.

McGowan did not elaborate on her takedown of the Academy any further, but tweeted soon after that “We need to look at who funds the Rape Machine” and called out TF1 Group, WPP, Technicolor and Goldman Sachs.

Asia Argento, the Italian actress who claimed Weinstein forcefully performed oral sex on her against her wishes, tweeted on Saturday that women who have experienced an abuse of power by Weinstein’s friend and the head of Miramax Italian’s offices, Fabirzio Lombardo.

Lombardo was the subject of a 2004 New York Times story which was supposed to take aim at similar allegations of sexual harassment against Weinstein that have recently came to light.

Damon admitted that Weinstein called him to call reporter Sharon Waxman and vouch for Lombardo’s professional behavior at the time.
