Wisconsin knocks off 1-seed Villanova to reach Sweet Sixteen

There will be no repeat national champion.

The Villanova Wildcats, who won last year's NCAA Tournament to earn their second championship in school history, will not be repeating in 2017. Villanova fell to 8-seed Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon, 65-62, becoming the first 1-seed to lose in this year's event. The Badgers earned the victory after a big late bucket from Nigel Hayes and a great defensive stop on a drive from Villanova's Josh Hart.

Villanova had a chance to tie after a missed free throw from Vitto Brown with 3.4 seconds left, but the Wildcats had trouble advancing the ball up the court in time. A desperation heave, which may not have even shot in time, fell short.

Villanova finishes its season with a 32-4 record. Wisconsin, meanwhile, had advanced to the Sweet 16 and will play the winner of Florida vs. Virginia.
