'Flip or Flop' star Christina El Moussa targeted by skin-product 'scam,' spokesperson says

As if Christina El Moussa didn't have enough to worry about with her personal life, now she's been targeted by a website claiming that the "Flip or Flop" star helped "create" a skincare product that she actually has nothing to do with.

A website, doctored to look like an article from People, claims that El Moussa is behind a skincare business known as Vinetics-C, that accounts for "close to 50 percent" of her and estranged husband Tarek El Moussa's income.

The website goes on to claim that Christina El Moussa said she created an anti-wrinkle serum "so that I could take care of my family without having to depend on staying together with Tarek.

"Tarek and I were having problems long before we broke up," El Moussa supposedly said in an Instagram post "which she later changed," according to the website. "I knew that my livelihood would be become threatened if I didn't take action, so I worked with a talented team to create Vinetics-C Anti-Wrinkle Serum to take care of my family without having to depend on staying together with Tarek."

The website also claimed that neither Tarek El Moussa and HGTV, which airs "Flip or Flop," were aware of the skincare line. And after checking with the reality star's spokesperson, TheWrap has discovered there's a good reason that they were unaware of it — because Christina El Moussa has nothing to do with it.

"This is absolutely NOT true, and it is a bogus website. This is not from People's website, and is clearly a scam with a made-up website address to give the false impression that Christina endorses this product or has made these false claims," El Moussa's spokesperson told TheWrap on Monday. "This is clearly an example of someone trying to take advantage of the current difficult situation she is going through in the public eye."

The spokesperson added, "We will forward [the website] to her attorney."

TheWrap has also reached out to People for comment.

The El Moussas announced their split after seven years of marriage in a statement to People in December, acknowledging, "Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage ... We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed."

According to the El Moussas, they broke up following a May incident during which law enforcement responded to a call of a "possibly suicidal male with a gun." The call was made after Tarek retrieved a gun from a safe in the couple's Orange County, California, home and wandered into Chino Hills State Park.

Tarek told deputies that he headed to the park to "blow off some steam," and that he brought the gun with him as protection against mountain lions and rattlesnakes.

"Flip or Flop," which premiered in 2013, revolves around the El Moussas, real estate agents who buy distressed properties and renovate them.
