The trailer for the Assassin's Creed movie is here

Updated

This year is going to be a pretty big one for video game movies. In just a month's time we'll have perhaps the biggest (or at the very least, most expensive) one yet in the form of Warcraft, the live action adaptation of the hugely popular Blizzard franchise. Jury's out on whether that will succeed or not, but Warcraft isn't the only big video game franchise putting itself to the cinematic test this year: before the year is out, another huge adaptation is coming in the form of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed movie.

Last night the trailer for that film officially landed during Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and is now available on the internet for all to enjoy. Check it out below:

The film is coming from producer and star Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Apocalypse), who is teaming up with his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel to bring the adaptation to life. Also included in the cast will be Marion Cotillard (Inception), Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), and Brendan Gleeson (Edge of Tomorrow). Ubisoft is clearly investing a lot in making this work, as they developed the film independently (with FOX only coming in later to distribute the film), and hope it can be used to jump start adaptations of their other big properties. We will see if all the effort is worth it when the film lands later this year.

The Assassin's Creed movie will hit theaters on December 21, 2016.
